Thrivent Financial Paralegal in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Partners directly with business and legal partners in the Investments division (primarily focusing on Private Equity, Real Estate Private Equity, and other types of transactional work) to recognize, analyze, and evaluate complex legal issues and risks, and develop related solutions to meet business objectives. Enhances and protects the organization’s reputation by providing support for regulatory and legal matters in a varied, fast-paced environment. May act as organization’s subject matter expert on various business and legal areas across multiple business lines.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support legal and business teams on transactions, including assisting with deal documents (for example, non-disclosure agreements, subscription agreements, corporate records, closing volumes, and others) and other aspects such as closings, amendments, consents, corporate actions, and similar. ​

  • Draft, maintain, and update internal corporate documents, tracking spreadsheets, checklists, forms, procedures manuals, and other resources. ​

  • Understands the functions, legal and business needs across divisions, departments, and business units supported, with a focus on transactional work for the Investments division, particularly various Private Investment asset classes. Maintains knowledge of the objectives of multiple business lines, and continually updates knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment in which they operate. Independently informs and coaches business partners as appropriate.

  • Supports the organization's goals and projects by conducting research and developing options and alternatives related to legal, regulatory and business matters and risk mitigation. Provides coaching and counseling to business partners related to implementation.

  • Independently identifies, analyzes, and researches legal issues within divisions, departments, and business units supported as appropriate. Works directly with outside counsel to resolve issues. Conducts research as directed by attorneys. Examples may be issues related to securities matters, Investment Company Act issues, and other regulatory matters.

  • May lead other GCO initiatives or participate in enterprise-wide initiatives as appropriate. May have responsibility to develop and/or maintain compliance and business processes.

Required Job Qualifications

  • College degree and paralegal certificate.

  • 5+ years related experience.

Other Critical Factors

  • Experience in transactional and/or corporate work is critical

  • Experience with tools used to evaluate, interpret, and analyze legal information.

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Exercises sound business acumen and judgment.

  • Fosters teamwork and collaboration.

  • Mentors other paralegals and legal specialists.

  • Ability to evaluate, redesign or tailor electronic tools utilized by law and compliance to meet the needs of the GCO.

  • Ability to draft policies and procedures for GCO and business clients;

  • Deep understanding of the business to direct outside counsel to obtain cost effective legal advice and results.
