Apply for Job Job ID362052 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352R3 Employee ClassCivil Service Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job About the Job Major job functions for this position include the following. 1) Project Management - 60% * Execute and track projects using the UMGC's FileMaker Pro database * Contribute to the planning/design of experiments and help researchers initiate projects supporting multiple research programs simultaneously. * Generate quotes and invoice for completed projects. * Keep detailed records of experiments. * Track status for multiple projects to meet deadlines. * Coordinate experiments with other staff members. * Assist Operations manager with general laboratory management/maintenance. 2) Laboratory experiments - 30% * Perform multiple complex scientific procedures effectively, efficiently, and independently. * Meet project specifications on time. * Track multiple concurrent projects. * Maintain a required high level of cleanliness and refined processing technique to ensure samples are not contaminated. * Carry out laboratory experiments under the direction of UMGC scientists. * Troubleshoot experiments. * Operate all related specialized instrumentation and technologies, i.e. liquid handling robots, data acquisition instruments. * Maintain instrumentation per manufacture protocols. * Work collaboratively with other staff and researchers. 3) Data Collection and Analysis - 10% * Collect and analyze data using custom or vendor software. * Evaluate and clearly communicate experimental results. * Ability to accurately enter, interpret and analyze data using Excel spreadsheets. * Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. * Assist with data mining and meta data for improving and tracking UMGC services and processes. Unit and location where duties will be performed: Genomics off campus in Oakdale, MN at our 4Front location Length of probationary period: 12 months Percent time of appointment: 100% Term and type of appointment: Continuing 40-hour work week will be arranged ahead of time which may include nights and weekends. Profile Two - Regularly Remote Time spent working remotely is consistently less than 50% time. Dedicated work space to be provided. Must be able to lift 25 pounds. Determine the Qualifications Required (Minimum) Qualifications: Position requires BA/BS and two years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal six years. Demonstrated experience with next-generation sequencing instrument management, library creation/loading and data analysis is required. Ability to follow oral directions and written protocols precisely, independently motivated, able to manage time and meet deadlines, strong communication skills, meticulous organizational skills, reliability and accountability of work. Preferred Qualifications: (Selection Criteria) Extensive molecular biology laboratory experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) loading of NGS instrumentation (Illumina MiSeq, Illumina NextSeq, Illumina Novaseq, and others). Preparation of next-generation libraries in high throughout environment, bioinformatics knowledge related to next-generation sequencing data specifically able to evaluate instrument basic QC analysis and instrument throughput management. About the Department The University of Minnesota Genomics Center (UMGC) provides genomic technologies and services to researchers and clinicians at the University of Minnesota, and to external academic and industry scientists throughout the United States and internationally. Contribute to multiple research programs simultaneously for UMGC Customers. Support UMGC NGS and Custom teams in technical customer discussions, presentations, and trainings. Collaborate with Operation Management and Applications Support to identify key customer requirements or future operational development efforts. Collaborate closely with the development team in scaling up operations and then orchestrating robotic sequencing library generation. Work closely with Marketing and Sales to ensure the value of the NGS/SCG services are communicated clearly and effectively to customers. Represent UMGC's NGS/SCG services to the molecular biology community at large, including communicating established technologies at industry trade shows. Provide support for new emerging NGS and SCG applications in which xGen products may be employed. Stay abreast of the latest trends in the NGS/SCG field via literature. Flexibly evolve and master new skills to fill in gaps outside of your primary responsibility.
