City Of Minneapolis-Human Resources MPD Health and Wellness Specialist in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Description This position will assist in leading the Department's efforts to develop and implement policy and procedures related to Health and Wellness initiatives related to the settlement agreement with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and Consent Decree with the United States Department of Justice. The position will look to enhance current mental and physical wellness services for members of the Department. This position will be responsible for managing any health and wellness compliance requirements. This position will assist in executing a health and wellness strategy, communicating the strategy internally and externally, and assisting in putting in place systems and processes for managing the delivery of the strategy. Work Location This position currently works on-site only. Job Duties and Responsibilities Assist in Implementing an overall strategy for health & wellness programs and initiatives from the Settlement Agreement, Consent Decree, and current Minneapolis Police Department programs. Ensuring competitive, cost-effective plans that drive a wellness culture that inspires, motivates, and equips employees to adapt and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Assist in developing and overseeing programs providing counseling and crisis management, behavioral health, field response, peer support, and best practices for developing mental health protocols for mental health response through close collaboration with other key City and Community partners. Direct communication and training strategies based on best practices and current research to promote and continuously educate employees on health and well being programs. Provide training and other programs on mental health using best practices and current research on issues including PTSD, burnout, compassion fatigue, etc., to community partners and law enforcement. Work to achieve and maintain compliance with wellness deliverables from the Settlement Agreement and Consent Decree. Work with Human Resources to manage benefit programs, vendors, and other HR associates for services provided to Department personnel that enhance the Wellness program's mission. Engage internal and external stakeholders in partnership and strategy to fulfill the strategic plan. Assist with securing resources, through grants/others, for Unit goals, including stress mitigation/reduction, physical fitness, nutrition, and others. Assist in evaluating, creating, and implementing policy, procedures, plans, and programs for current department programs, including traumatic incidents, trauma response, medical and family leave, workers' compensation, permanent and light duty, return to work, and fitness for duty. Keep abreast of current national wellness and wellbeing initiatives and activities, developing a network of resources and opportunities. Working Conditions Office and field work. This position has some potential for dealing with danger/or stress and hazards, including exposure to dangerous settings during critical incidents, including disturbing discussions/events. Required Qualifications Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree in Public Health Administration or closely related field. A combination of education and work experience closely associated with the position's duties may be considered. Minimum Experience Two years working in the Health and Wellness industry dealing with developing and implementing policy, procedures, and programs or closely related fields. An equivalent combination of education and work experience closely associated with the position's duties may be considered. Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and highly related experience in a similar environment may be considered. Selection Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information wi l be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process. Background Check The City has determined that a thorough Minneapolis Police Department criminal background check is necessary for positions with this job title. Applicants must sign an informed consent allowing the City to obtain their criminal history information in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be considered for the position. Drug and Alcohol Testing All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire three (3) months after it has been established.
