This posting is intended to create a pool of candidates to call upon if course enrollments warrant adding additional sections in a given term. Applicants will ONLY be contacted if needed. Fall semester begins in September, spring term begins in January, and summer semester begins in June. The Adjunct Lecturer is a temporary, part-time position in the Minnesota English Language Program. Adjunct Lecturers will be responsible for teaching courses in the Intensive English Program, Academic English Program, and/or a Short- Term Program. These are temporary, non-tenured positions paid on a per course basis. Adjunct instructors will be hired on a per term basis based on program needs. Position duties include planning and teaching one or more ESL courses; attending weekly staff meetings and orientation; collaborating with other teachers in the program on curriculum development; and student assessment and other program duties as assigned. Work for a phenomenal team and College that is student and staff-centered! The search committee will review applications as program needs arise throughout the year. Candidates will only be contacted when there is a course available. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Teaching (90 percent of time) 1. Teach one or more courses per term in the Minnesota English Language Program based on program needs. 2. Support student learning outside of class contact hours by holding weekly office hours, meeting with students through appointments, and by communicating via email or course website. 3. Design syllabi, develop course materials and assessments, and plan lessons to align with course outcomes. 4. Participate in regular faculty meetings and level and skill coordination meetings. 5. Work collaboratively with MELP faculty to align curriculum and coordinate lessons. 6. Give input on text selection for courses in collaboration with MELP faculty and staff. 7. Schedule and plan language labs for courses. 8. Grade student work, assess student progress, and provide students with feedback in a timely manner. 9. For all courses taught, submit course materials, syllabi, and retrospective syllabi to the shared MELP files by the end of the semester. Other program duties (10 percent of time) 1. Participate in MELP Faculty Orientation each semester. 2. Support MELP administrative staff with duties during the semester such as administering and grading program assessments, helping with registration and orientation, leading student outings. 3. Participate in several MELP organized social activities with students and staff each semester. 4. Participate in developmental observations of peers. 5. Engage in ongoing professional development. 6. Perform other duties as assigned. SUPPORT OF MISSION This position contributes course offerings of quality continuing education and preparation for degree programs for ESL students at the university and in the community. The position follows the CCE service philosophy standards and contributes to the positive image of the college. SKILLS Excellent communicative, student-centered language teaching skills; excellent knowledge of the structure and form of the English language; ability to implement and articulate clear, personal philosophy of teaching based on a knowledge base of research on second language learning; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; ability to design quality language course curriculum; knowledge of working with diverse groups of students; lesson planning skills; superior communication skills; student assessment skills; demonstrated commitment to DEI.
