Overview

Fairview Health Services has an opening for a Jr. Scientist (Researcher I) for the BMT Stem Cell department at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations%2Fm-health-fairview-university-of-minnesota-medical-center---east-bank) . This is a fulltime position on the day shift.

The Jr. Scientist (Researcher 1) position is responsible for performing professional laboratory work in a research laboratory. Will join a laboratory that provides research sample processing and immune monitoring services for early phase clinical trials. Will also contribute to maintenance of a large bio-specimen repository. We are looking for a person who is detail oriented and who enjoys being part of a collaborative team.

(45%) Pick up blood and other biological samples from hospital or clinics. Interact effectively with clinic and hospital staff in person and by phone to resolve any questions or problems with biological samples. Process samples; in collaboration with other lab staff, perform multiple sequential procedures with each sample: isolate mononuclear cells by density gradient centrifugation, perform cell counts on blood and bone marrow, cryopreserve cells, isolate and cryopreserve biological fluids.

(25%) Perform testing of biological samples, including immunophenotyping for surface antigens, intracellular stains, routine flow cytometry acquisition and analysis, radioactive assays (cytotoxicity and proliferation), and qPCR. Under direction of laboratory supervisor, perform additional testing of samples to answer experimental questions and/or to develop new immunoassays.

(15%) Manage sample data by making calculations from measured data and entering specimen information and test results into laboratory, repository, and study databases. Summarize data and send results as needed to the study investigator (10%) Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. Perform calibration and quality control on equipment

(5%) Analyze and report data using Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and Power Point presentations to summarize experiments and results, present data at lab meetings.

Selects and adapts equipment, instruments and methods to meet requirements of the laboratory program or specified research needs.

Employs a wide variety of standards or experimental techniques to conduct laboratory preparations.

Conducts assays, tabulates, and graphs data.

Assists the Principal Investigator in the development of new lab techniques for experimentation.

Maintains laboratory equipment, media reconstruction and supply inventory.

Operates, maintains and calibrates apparatus and equipment common to area of study.

Recommend equipment modification as needed.

Maintains lab manuals and data books, which incorporate methods and results from experiments.

Reviews literature as suggested by the investigation.

Selects facts, techniques and procedures from the literature.

Summarize the findings.

Additional duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Natural or Social Science (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Immunology, etc.)

Preferred:

Candidates with prior lab experience and/or flow cytometry experience.
