The position is located at both Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve in East Bethel, MN (40 mins from St. Paul, MN) and the University of Minnesota's St. Paul Campus. This is an in-person position. The intern may start as early as mid-August and the position runs through mid-November. Interns may work part-time to full-time depending on their individual availability. The pay is $17/hr. Position responsibilities: - 70% Collect ecological samples and data: tasks include identifying and sampling plants and seeds; sorting sampled plants to species, sorting and cleaning seeds, weighing biomass, recording environmental measurements (e.g., soil moisture, temperature), and downloading SD cards from trail cameras and sound recording devices. - 20% Maintain field experiments: tasks include preparing experimental infrastructure for the winter, sowing seeds, and maintaining a network of trail cameras. - 10% Assist with other research-related tasks. Qualifications Required Qualifications that must be met to be considered for the position: -HS diploma -Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a team -Demonstrated ability to work outdoors -Age: 18+ Preferred Qualifications that will be evaluated during the hiring process: -Strong interest in ecology -Experience identifying MN plant species About the Department Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve has many large-scale experimental platforms and is one of the most active ecological research sites worldwide. Cedar Creek is a member of the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network and hosts the ASCEND (Advancing Spectral Biology in Changing ENvironments to understand Diversity) NSF Biology Integration Institute.
