Position Summary:

Kraus-Anderson (KA) Construction Company’s High School Summer Internship program offers high school-level students the opportunity to get exposure to different areas in the construction field. This summer internship is a comprehensive eight-week experience where interns will get to work alongside KA employees to learn about their roles and responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Managers shadowing, including but is not limited to:
  1. Attend and participate in meetings, bidding, and scheduling

  2. Gain exposure and understand construction methods, terminology, planning, specifications and related documentation

  • Project Coordinator shadowing, including
  1. Assist with subcontractor contract review and communications

  2. Understand Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EEO/AA) requirements on projects

  • Estimator shadowing, including
  1. Work with the Preconstruction Team, attending and participating in meetings, estimating and pricing

  2. Understand and utilize estimating software

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) shadowing, including
  1. Understand BIM technology, application and utilization

  2. Site assessment using BIM/drone technologies

  • Safety team shadowing, including
  1. Understand safety principles, KACC culture of safety

  2. Attend job site safety inspections, as available

  • Quality team shadowing, including
  1. Understand importance of quality, quality inspections, and maintaining quality standards on a job site
  • Other meetings and professional development opportunities, as appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Interest in a future career in the construction industry

  • High school students in good standing at the school where they are enrolled

  • At least 16 years of age or older at the time of internship

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High school Seniors enrolled in 4-year college Construction Management program beginning Fall 2023 encouraged to apply

  • ACE Mentor Program or other construction-specific program participants encouraged to apply

  • Diverse students encouraged to apply

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)

  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers

  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals

  • Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

  • Ability to possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of

  • conduct from self and others

Other:

  • Ability to travel to KA corporate headquarters, downtown Minneapolis

  • High school interns must be accompanied by a KA employee(s) at all times while on a construction project site
