This position provides oversight and leadership of all HR related activities within the CNC including the four clinical departments it supports: Neurology, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Neurosurgery and Rehabilitation Medicine. The position provides consulting and advising expertise to department heads, finance director, faculty and administrative leadership covering a broad range of HR issues and works to establish and align HR with the strategic plans, goals and initiatives of the departments, center, Medical School, and University. Duties/Responsibilities 40%: Consultation Consult with and advise department heads, faculty, managers and staff on policies, procedures and best practices of the University of Minnesota, Medical School and our clinical partner, University of Minnesota Physicians (M Physicians), regarding strategic workforce planning and staffing, organizational design, talent management and succession planning, classification and compensation, performance management, and employee relations. Advise on complex, high-risk employment situations, employee performance and discipline issues, conduct investigations, and recommend solutions according to best practices, employment law and within context of employment contracts and policies. Analyze, evaluate and develop tools for management reporting of quantitative HR metrics related to compensation, recruitment and retention, equity and diversity, training, employee engagement and performance management. Identify trends and recommend actions and programs to leadership. 20%: Compensation Provide oversight and management of compensation policies and guidelines for departments and clinical service units. Assist with the development of principles for guiding unit decisions related to compensation. Monitor, analyze and advise leadership on effectiveness of compensation plan in driving desired outcomes. Research and provide benchmark salary information to department heads utilizing relevant market surveys. Communicate and implement annual academic salary plan and annual staff merit, in partnership with finance director, department head, department administrator, and Medical School CFO. 20%: Supervision and Management Supervise, mentor and develop the CNC HR Generalist team (2.0 FTE) who support a broad range of HR functions associated with faculty, staff and trainees such as recruitment, appointment management, employee relations, and performance management. Represent center and departments by partnering with the Medical School, the larger University community and M Physicians. 10%: Recruitment Assist department heads and department administrators with faculty recruitment process from approval to hire. Provide consultation regarding appropriate rank, track, and compensation; facilitate Medical School hiring approval process for all faculty recruitment; ensure faculty search committees are compliant with equal opportunity and affirmative action policies, guidelines, and procedures as well as how to evaluate candidates. Partner with Medical School Administration, M Physicians recruitment and onboarding teams, Fairview, and hiring department for on-boarding and orientation of new faculty hires. 10%: Training and Development Establish and update unit-wide policies, procedures and forms for administrative center and departments in areas of hiring, leaves, terminations, performance management, and oversee communication of policy and procedure information to appropriate administrators, supervisors, faculty and staff. Partner with department heads and administrators on employee talent and leadership development. Oversee and facilitate discussion and planning for Univer ity of Minnesota employee engagement surveys, present and interpret results, make recommendations and support action plans. Salary range: $105,000 - $120,000, depending upon qualifications Qualifications Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of professional human resources generalist experience to include policy/law/contract interpretations, performance management, compensation, investigations, recruitment; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Demonstrated experience working successfully in a complex environment; Experience balancing multiple priorities while achieving day-to-day results; Demonstrated progressive supervisory experience; Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; Experience managing confidential matters with discretion and sensitivity; Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resource Development or closely related field; More than 6 years of professional experience in human resources; Professional human resources credentials, such as PHR, SPHR; Experience in organizational development; Experience developing training and development programs; Understanding or previous experience in an academic health care environment; Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
