Summary:

MEI produces cab comfort products for locomotives. We are ISO9001 certified and firmly committed to continually providing consistently high levels of quality and reliability, competitive products, to meet or exceed Wabtec customer expectations in a timely manner, and continually improving the effectiveness of the quality management system. The Quality Inspector reports directly to the Quality Manager. The Quality team ensures compliance with Wabtec’s quality standards, while working efficiently and effectively within a lean environment, and is instrumental in furnishing our customers with a quality and reliable product.

This is a Monday through Friday day-shift position requiring occasional overtime on weekends. We offer a generous benefits package.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspection for compliance to quality and engineering requirements by confirming specifications, drawings, BOMs, and visual inspections of: incoming materials; FAI material; In-process production; and Finished product.

  • Releases approved/passed material to inventory.

  • Communicates approvals and rejections to the vendors and purchasing and required adjustments to production.

  • Verifies assembly checklists are complete and test results are within acceptable ranges.

  • Maintains quality records.

  • Creates non-conforming reports.

  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.

  • Adhere to the Wabtec Code of Conduct.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications : (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and three years minimum quality inspection experience required.

  • Possess basic math skills.

  • Requires a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Forklift certified.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively unsupervised.

  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.

  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed.

  • Familiarity with calipers, steel rules, go-no-go gauges, and hand tools.

  • Ability to understand and interpret drawings, BOMs and procedures.

Employee is regularly required to:

  • Hear.

  • Read, write, and communicate in English.

  • Stand and/or walk for 6 hours at a time, with minimal breaks.

  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds independently or up to 50 pounds with assistance.

  • Vision abilities include close and distance vision, color distinction, and observe small handwriting, labels, and components.

  • Operate a forklift.

  • Employee is always required to wear steel toed shoes and safety glasses.

  • Employee is required to wear hearing protection in designated areas.

  • The Position requires the employee to be on-site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.

  • Requires daily face-to-face interaction and communication with employees on production line and management.

Work Environment: (The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.)

  • The employee will normally work on the production shop floor that does not have controlled temperatures and will vary based on weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes and minimal to moderate noise.
