PLANT CHEMIST - DEFENSE (3rd Shift) The Plant Chemist - Defense is responsible for performing quality control and assisting manufacturing with Defense related products. Successful candidates will have an acceptable score on the color matching and math tests. DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Conduct such tests as weight per gallon, viscosity, color measurements, sag resistance or other tests as assigned. Use specialized measuring and weighing equipment to determine characteristics of batches. Evaluate for NVM, adhesion or other physical specifications as required using standard laboratory equipment. Notify Supervisor in the event of questionable results. Physically adjust out of specification constants with chemical additions to material based on test results or supervisory guidance. Make independent decisions regarding batch quality. Direct manufacturing in correcting problem batches, tinting procedures, etc. Keep accurate records and maintain a neat working area. Develop products and solve technical issues with a relatively minor amount of direction. Provide technical assistance for existing accounts. Build knowledge of analytical methods for solving problems. Work with and help train production personnel to solve problems. Reduce or rework distressed products on hand to reduce inventory. Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations. As part of the housekeeping procedures, the employee may be involved with the disposal of hazardous waste.
