Classroom Assistant

Classroom Assistant Floater

This full time position will serve as a floater para-professional for other CSIU Special Education programs in order to cover the absence of the primary staff based on daily program needs.  This position will work with grades K-12 students enrolled in autistic support, emotional support, life skills support, and multiple disabilities support classrooms with the CSIU region.  The anticipated start date is December 19, 2024.

Hourly wage: $13.00 -- 19.50 per hour for a non-exempt position following a 185 days per school year schedule.  Benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance; retirement options including Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) and life insurance options.

Education and skills required include:

• A high school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED).Additionally, the attainment of the Para-Educator Competency Assessment Checklist is required within the first 90 school days of employment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding education programs, students and parents at all times adhering to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements to protect staff and student data.
• Ability to accept great cultural diversity, flexibility to accommodate a changing caseload.
• Ability to cope with stressful situations and a professional attitude are required.
• Must have ability to communicate and work effectively with colleagues, co-workers, community agency personnel, and students/trainees.
• Requires the ability to develop and maintain positive and collaborative relationships using tact and diplomacy and to remain calm in unpredictable situations.

• Must be flexible in adapting to student needs and various teaching styles.
