As Staff Fluid Systems Engineer, you will be foundational to the development of BD’s next generation of flow cytometry products. These new products are critical to business success and solidifying BD as the market leader in flow cytometry. In the R&D Hardware Engineering Group, you will apply working knowledge of fluid controls, fluid dynamics, instrument design, and engineering principles to commercialize high-performing fluidic design solutions. You will join a diverse and experienced hardware team with a strong culture of accountability. You will excel in the detailed design of fluid systems that precisely control the fluids and biological samples in our instruments. You will own the design, build, documentation, and testing of your solutions that robustly integration to our products. With high level of autonomy, you effectively will work across the stages of the product development, from technology development and product conception to launch and sustaining.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing, developing, and qualifying fluid management solutions on complex laboratory equipment

  • Translating system level requirements into fluid management sub-system requirements

  • Modeling, simulation, and budgeting of performance of the gas and liquid systems

  • Autonomously propose fluid designs and debate trade-offs with engineering and other functions

  • Leading and owning the development of custom fluid management components and subassemblies, both in-house as well as with external partners

  • Select and qualifying OEM fluid handling components for performance, reliability, cost, and chemical compatibility

  • Manage suppliers to deliver robust outsourced components and subassembly designs

  • Coordination and participation of hands-on assembly, test, and troubleshooting of fluid sub-systems.

  • Apply best practices of design and test such as Six Sigma, DFX, CAE, etc.

  • Perform formal verification, including writing executing protocols, execution and reports

  • Communicate to R&D peers, leadership, and stakeholders as the fluidics domain expert.

  • Apply fluidics domain expertise to sustaining engineering for released products

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline with specialization in fluid dynamics / fluid control systems

  • M.S. Degree or Ph.D. with fluid dynamics specialization and industry experience preferred

  • At least 8 years of combined academic and industry experience in fluid handling components and developing automated fluid control systems

  • Expertise in fluid control components such valves, pumps, regulators, sensors.

  • Fluid circuit design and analysis experience

  • Experience in hands-on assembly, test and trouble-shooting

  • Knowledge of CFD principles and applied experience with commercial CFD

  • Experience solving problems in a multidisciplinary environment with engineers and scientists

  • Must have strong lab skills, with ability to perform and document detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy

  • Knowledge of modern and advance fabrication techniques a preferred

  • Experience with SolidWorks preferred

  • Familiarity with statistical methods and applications in design preferred

  • Must have strong lab skills, with ability to perform and document detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to field challenging questions in a public setting.

  • Effective multi-tasking capabilities

  • Willingness to travel up to 10% (global)\

Salary Range Information

$126,600.00 - $208,900.00 USD Annual
