JOB SUMMARY:
Directly accountable for overseeing BD Biosciences Facilities operations in Milpitas, CA, San Jose, CA and San Diego, CA. Indirectly supports BD Biosciences in Tatabanya, Hungary, Cayey, Puerto Rico, Ashland, Oregon, and Salamanca, Spain as required; this includes but is not limited to security, maintenance, administration, and custodial staff. Responsible for the development and administration of the department budget, including capital expense and resource planning. Partners with Site Leaders and senior management in developing and implementing strategies concerning facilities planning. Works on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of intangible, variable factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies and displays initiative in selecting and developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Responsible for the performance management and development of subordinate staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Establishes departmental objectives and goals, ensuring alignment with key corporate and local business goals and priorities.
Provides general direction to subordinate managers, through supervising manager’s schedules, priorities, and goals (security, maintenance, and administration).
Develops, presents and maintains department budget.
Collaborates with local leadership to address short-term and long-term facilities planning issues. Continually evaluates and optimizes space utilization.
Accountable for ensuring physical building structures are properly maintained. Schedules and performs general maintenance of facilities and related mechanical, electrical, building support and process support systems.
Responsible for management and procurement review and approval of Third-Party Facility Services provided by BD’s partner, Jones Lang LaSalle
Obtains and reviews bids; negotiates and manages facility related service agreements.
Exercises responsibility for associate training and development and motivating direct reports. Ensures cross training of personnel in crucial processes.
Available “On-call” 7/24 to address after hour problems/emergencies.
Participates on Safety Committee including development, implementation, and enforcement of safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
Participates in government agency safety and regulatory inspections and required permitting processes. Assists in ensuring compliance with all BDX, FM Global, Federal, State, and local regulations.
Serves as operations liaison between the business and its landlords.
Carries out Human Resource management responsibilities, such as hiring, job assignments, termination recommendations, transfers, promotions, salary actions, and processes performance reviews on time.
Promotes a safe work environment.
Follows BD Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures.
Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area.
Participates in EH&S programs.
Notifies supervisors of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.
Plans and manages facility renovation or upgrade projects as necessary.
Works with Corporate groups including but not limited to Construction, Facilities, IT, Security, Office Services, Real Estate, Procurement, Risk, Sustainability, Cafeteria Services, etc.… Works closely with Quality to develop, implement, and document policies and procedures to ensure ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 compliance.
Serves on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
Performs other related duties and assignments as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
General Physical Requirements: Medium work: Exerts occasional force of up to 50 pounds and up to 20 pounds frequently or constant activity of 10 pounds of force.
Visual Acuity Requirements: Mechanics, Technicians and skilled occupations. Attention to detail; neatness and accuracy very important.
Motion & Sensory Requirements: Walking, reaching, pushing, stooping, grasping, lifting, talking, hearing.
Physical Working Conditions: Indoors, outdoors, hazards (biological, chemical, radiological, mechanical, electrical), atmospheric conditions (chemical odors).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in facilities management and a minimum of 5+ years management experience in a biotechnology/biopharmaceutical industry or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Demonstrated understanding of general business and business strategy concepts.
Demonstrated success in a leadership role.
Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and motivate and manage subordinate managers and exempt level personnel.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
Effective organization and planning skills.
Effective presentation and meeting skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
A valid, unrestricted California driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS/BA in engineering or operation management or related degree required.
An advanced degree is preferred.
Course work or further education in business, accounting, or management skills is helpful.

$139,800.00 - $230,700.00 USD Annual
