Opportunity Builders Team Leader, Direct Support Professional in Millersville, Maryland
Opportunity Builders, Inc. (OBI) Direct Support Professionals Team Leaders are responsible for providing direct care and advocacy for adults diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities, in addition to serving in a leadership capacity to support other staff working on their assigned teams. This position ensures the participants assigned to them are receiving the highest quality of care and support through the person-centered planning (PCP) process. This includes assisting in proactive steps to work towards achieving goals outlined within the Person-Centered Plan (PCP). This position may require providing direct care/support within the agency’s facility, while being transported, or within the community. This position is expected to assist participants with Activities of Daily Living skills (ADLs), providing transportation as needed, support other Direct Support Professionals. The Team Leader is also responsible for ensuring that proper staffing ratios are followed, that participants are engaged in meaningful activities, and for assisting with training and mentoring of newly hired staff.
Essential Duties
Direct Support Responsibilities
To provide assistance with ADLs to adults (participants) diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities as needed. This could include but is not limited to assistance with eating/drinking, toileting, dressing, writing, verbal communications, sharing of information between participant and other individuals, etc.
To identify and offer activities that are meaningful to the individual being supported, being sure to seek participant and caregiver input to help guide services.
To act in a manner that is dignified, respectful, and honors the participant’s rights, preferences and needs as determined within the person-centered plan (PCP).
Provide activities in-person while following all health and safety guidelines, and provide virtual activities using secure, OBI-approved platforms (i.e., zoom, facetime, etc.)
Provide accurate and quality documentation of all services provided, in accordance with OBI, state, and federal regulations by entering service data into ICare Manager each day that services are provided.
Work directly with participants in helping achieve individual goals and objectives.
Participate in the development of the participant’s person-centered plan (PCP).
Work with supervisors and case coordinators to communicate the preferences of the participants to ensure this is reflected within the person-centered plan (PCP).
Participate in ongoing in-service training and maintain all DDA and OBI required trainings.
Participate in specialized training for any assigned participant, which includes reviewing and signing off on the person-centered plan (PCP) and behavior plan (BP) when applicable.
Train Direct Support Professionals about individual specific training as needed.
Driving your own personal vehicle and/or an agency vehicle to provide community and/or employment transportation to the participants.
Assist the Manager of Staffing and Transportations to update the daily staff assignments.
Cover virtual services as needed.
Assist with ensuring there are meaningful activities for program participants.
Assure Direct Support Professionals are completing their daily forms.
Be a Certified Medication Technician or the ability to become a Certified Medication Technician.
Leadership Responsibilities
Assist with the implementation of program activities and ensure that participants are engaged in meaningful activities during program hours.
Assist with the training of DSPs assuring that DSPs understand and are comfortable with their responsibilities and duties. This includes but not limited to ratio training, PCP, mentoring, etc.
Provide assistance to the program Manager and Director as needed.
Non-Essential Duties
Attend external meetings, conferences and training as needed/requested by supervisor.
Additional duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent in work experience.
Valid Driver’s license, no more than 3 points on driving record and 3+ years driving experience.
Ability to perform and meet job and physical requirements listed below.
Smart phone with internet capability and basic knowledge of internet, apps, email and GPS.
Minimum of 1 year experience working with people with intellectual and physical disabilities (may include personal experience from having a family member or member(s) with a disability)
Able to perform with autonomy, as well as in a team-oriented environment.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
Physical Requirements
The basic physical requirements described here are representative of those that are required daily as a Day Habilitation Direct Support Professional (DSP) to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Lifting/transferring approximately 50 to 100 pounds (usually with assistance).
Pushing/pulling (i.e. wheelchair) 100 pounds.
Frequent standing; walking; sitting; squatting; bending; reaching; fine motor skills.
