WTW Investment Operations Associate - Manager Onboarding in Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to make an impact in this new role. We are currently looking for an experienced Associate to join the Onboarding Team in Mexico City, as a member of the Manager Onboarding sub-function. This team supports the Global WTW Delegated Investment Solutions (DIS) business (also referred to as OCIO or Outsourced Chief Investment Officer services), with a focus on institutional clients in North American and EMEA and is part of a wider Global Investment Operations group of around 220 colleagues.

This role’s key responsibilities will be to complete the necessary tasks to onboard new managers and underlying funds to our trading platform, while supporting the account opening process for these funds to be included in our target portfolios for existing clients. The Investment Operations Associate will coordinate legal negotiations with internal and external legal counsel, legal and investment review activities to assist in the review, completion, and execution of contracts/fund documents, and maintain client and fund documentation as it relates specifically to the assets.

As a member of the Manager Onboarding Team (within the larger Operations Team), you will initiate efficient processes for reviewing and implementing agreements on behalf of our institutional pension clients. The role requires the ability to collaborate on cross-functional teams with colleagues from all levels, while effectively communicating opinions and ideas in a succinct and coherent manner.

The Role

The role specializes in the onboarding of new investment managers (New Manager Onboarding), in the investment into new and existing investment manager, by our institutional clients, and responding to various manager queries. The role works closely with Trade Management and Client Onboarding in all aspects of the below.

New Investment Managers

  • Coordinate the Manager Onboarding tasks for investments new to WTW, including liaising with legal counsel, Portfolio Management, Compliance, Client Onboarding, Trade Management and Middle Office.

  • Liaise with legal counsel to obtain advice, coordinate legal opinions on new assets, and ensure completion of legal documents where required e.g. Legal side letters.

  • Complete sections of subscription documents and other supporting documents, on behalf of our clients, related to the Manager Onboarding function, including tax and legal status.

New + Existing Client Assets

  • Support transitioning client assets to new investments, within the stated requirements and deadlines. This includes coordinating and completing sections of the funds’ subscription documents and other supporting documents related to the Manager onboarding function.

  • Source and collate supporting client governance documentation required for account opening, such as Trust agreements, W-8BEN-Es [AF1] and sensitive client information such as Senior Manager Official information.

  • Assist with other projects such as completing any necessary manager forms and sourcing any documentation required for portfolio restructuring, Master Trust closures and plan name changes,

  • Respond to ad hoc manager queries, including obtaining any necessary information for such response.

General

  • Support and encourage healthy collaboration with key internal stakeholders, including Middle Office, Portfolio Management, Trade Management, Client and Manager Onboarding, Client Consulting, and the Global Operations team.

  • Identify and mitigate risks by implementing process improvements.

  • Identify process efficiencies and implement improvements.

  • Keep procedure documents up to date, constantly monitoring for required amendments.

  • Encourage a culture of accountability with adherence to relevant compliance, risk management and error policies.

  • Supporting Operational Transformation

  • As a member of a wider team, Global Investment Operations, support the evolution of the Canadian business to the Global Operations Model. Confidently articulate ideas for process improvement. You will be encouraged to question the status quo, and lead efficiency projects to improve global Manager Onboarding practices.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Incorporate key details in the preparation of agreements, and related documentation pertaining to investing the assets of retirement plans with investment managers.

  • Review client documents (including plan documents, trust agreements, investment policies) as it relates to the AML (anti-money laundering)/KYC (know your customer) process.

  • Effectively communicate with fund managers, custodians, and other external parties involved to ensure all agree on a trade timeline.

  • Learn about the wider investment consulting business by gaining exposure to numerous facets of the industry and have opportunities to work with multiple different teams within the organization.

  • Develop collaborative relationships and openly communicate on work matters with internal teams.

  • Effectively interact with internal teams to keep them informed on progress and ensure they carry out any required actions.

The Requirements

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of successful investment industry experience

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to monitor and manage multiple tasks often within short timeframes. Project management experience is an asset.

  • A keen eye and attention to detail.

  • Knowledge/experience of investment manager agreements and fund subscription documents.

  • Expectation of being able to act proactively and independently.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. English is required. French is an asset.

  • Ability to build strong networks internally and to collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams.

  • Natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with clients/colleagues at all levels.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Canadian financial regulatory environment is an asset.

  • Undergraduate degree with a quantitative emphasis such as majors in Business, Math, Finance, Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience with professional certifications

  • A proven interest in finance and investments, demonstrating a curiosity to continue to learn and grow as the industry changes. An understanding of institutional clients is an asset.

Role is located in Mexico City. We offer a flexible work environment and currently have at least two anchor days per week where the team is expected to work from the office.
