TheDow Chemical CompanyFinance organization has an opening for aTreasury Directorwithin the Treasury’s Financial Risk Management Team (FRMT). The purpose of the position is to develop, execute, monitor and manage the financial risk management strategy for a portfolio of foreign exchange exposures. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Senior Treasury Director of Net Foreign Investments and Economic Exposures within the FRMT. The FRMT manages the global hedging and investments related to a $40+ billion portfolio of exposures derived from foreign currencies, interest rates, commodities and investments. Core Responsibilities:

  • In alignment with the vision of the Financial Risk Directors, systematically develop, pitch, execute and manage the financial risk management strategy for a portfolio of financial exposures. For example:

  • Pro-actively monitor exposures and markets, and evaluate pertinent internal and external information from multiple sources:

  • Internal: Work with numerous Treasury and other company processes to evaluate the quantity and nature of the company’s exposures to various foreign currencies, interest rates, commodities, equities, and cash.

  • External: Evaluate information from Bloomberg, economic research, banking counterparty contacts and other sources.

  • Analyze and evaluate the macroeconomic conditions, market dynamics, and price action of the various markets to estimate their potential impact on the company’s exposures from multiple perspectives.

  • Earnings, cash flow, value changes, etc.

  • Evaluate the available market for linear and non-linear derivatives and other hedging instruments and their relative costs, benefits, credit exposure and regulatory requirements.

  • Apply advanced accounting concepts, specially hedge accounting as dictated in ASC-815, in the evaluation of available hedging instruments relative to exposures.

  • Develop analysis methods to effectively evaluate the multi-faceted effects on the company of various risk management strategies.

  • Develop, maintain and share relevant market views and hedging strategies based upon fundamental, technical and quantitative analysis of hedged positions.

  • Determine market views and hedging strategies that optimize the balance between financial statement volatility, value added as measured by internal benchmarks and financial flexibility.

  • Take positions in the financial markets to earn positive profits for the company.

  • Serve as a trusted risk advisor to the company. For example:

  • Advise, educate and present on matters related to the markets, exposures and risk, their various impacts on the company and best practices for effective mitigation and management.

  • Counsel management and provide concise updates as macroeconomic and financial markets change.

  • Develop and internally publish periodic forecasts of macroeconomic conditions and market prices.

  • Collaborate with Financial Planning and other functions to ensure reasonableness of estimated financial exposures, the most effective handling of potential changes for the company as a whole, and methods to eliminate the creation of exposures at the source.

  • Mentor and cross-train other members of the FRMT in risk management best practices and strategies to ensure the ongoing development of the FRMT, and seamless coverage of risk management strategies.

  • Ensure the efficient and orderly execution, monitoring and management of the FRMT’s risk management strategies, in effective collaboration with multiple other Treasury, company and external functions/processes (Operations, Compliance, Systems, Credit, Planning, Funding, Legal, Accounting, Tax, Counterparties and others). For example:

  • Ensure all activities are performed to negotiate, transact, monitor and manage the hedging instruments and investments.

  • Trade various instruments with counterparties, book the transactions, complete hedge accounting documentation and monitor derivatives etc.

  • Ensure various reports and analyses are generated to effectively convey the performance and sensitivity of risk management strategies to management, other members of the FRMT, controllers, tax and other stakeholders.

  • Evaluate financial performance of the company’s exposures and implemented hedges as compared to the range of possible outcomes.

  • Work in partnership with the Treasury Systems Team to automate manual reporting utilizing our brand-new Treasury Management System (FIS Quantum). Ensure the FRMT is positioned to take advantage of all the many functionalities and automation capabilities that Quantum provides.

  • Ensure the FRMT’s periodic and ad-hoc reporting is appropriately specified to effectively monitor the positions and conditions, and has been developed, created, optimized and distributed to the appropriate parties.

  • Apprise Financial Risk Directors of macroeconomic, financial market, and exposure changes.

  • Evaluate impacts of changes in the regulatory environment, accounting standards and industry practices, and predict their impact to develop and propose optimal Dow positions for the conditions and create appropriate documentation for these practices.

  • Proactively evaluate FRMT practices for continuous improvement, and when opportunities arise, investigate, develop and propose solutions in infrastructure and procedures.

  • Ensure the FRMT operates in complete compliance with all laws, regulations delegations, controls, policies, and procedures.

  • Complete ad-hoc requests, deliver projects and fulfill other routine duties as may be appropriate and/or required.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (preferentially in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Finance and/or Economics) or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.

  • A minimum of 8 years of total experience with a focus in financial/capital markets-oriented positions, and/or other relevant experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MBA with a finance focus preferred).

  • CFA Charterholder.

  • Understanding of financial operations, planning and accounting principles with an understanding of the principals of hedge accounting, a regulatory and control environment, and business/financial law.

  • In depth understanding of and interest in technology and financial systems.

  • Demonstrated competence and interest in mathematical modeling, statistical methods, and programming.
