Dowhas an exciting opportunity for aSenior Customs and Trade Compliance Leader, located inMidland, MI.

About you and this role

Accountable for International Trade Compliance for the region. Ensures regulatory compliance for TDCC in scope areas of imports, exports, duty management, HS classification, border security programs and the regional trade compliance audit program. Help define annual compliance priorities, lead strategic initiatives, manages unplanned event process, manages and monitors trade compliance training, identifies and manages gaps in compliance.

In this role, you will lead one or more teams of professionals and/or first-line leaders of operational support employees. You will need to have knowledge of the business operations of your discipline or functional area. You will need to fully understand these business operations and how teams work together to achieve operational objectives. You should be able to guide and persuade others, both internally and externally, to adopt a different point of view.

It is your responsibility to be able to identify technical and operational problems and recognize and understand broader impacts across multiple teams within your discipline or functional area. You will need to be able to lead one or more similar teams of professional individual contributors within your discipline. You also may lead teams of technical operations, business operations, or operational support employees who may or may not have supervisors. You will set priorities and allocate resources to align with business objectives and plans of execution. Your work is guided by policies and departmental plan and your performance impacts your team’s ability to achieve service, quality, and timeliness of objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for trade compliance in the region (US and Canada)

  • Represent Dow and act as a liaison with Government Agencies and Officials on behalf of all businesses and joint ventures

  • Implements the global trade compliance standards and work processes in Integrated Supply Chain across the region

  • Provide direction and counsel on all trade compliance aspects, including but not limited to: Import and Export Regulations and Processes, Free Trade Agreements, Duty Drawback and Optimization, Foreign Trade Zones and Customs Security/Trusted Trader Programs

  • Participates on the Global ITC Network to develop strategies and defines priorities and implementation plans

  • Leads regional trade compliance strategic regional initiatives

  • Partners with the Logistic Service Providers, such as FF and brokers to promote trade compliance in the region

  • Improves the trade compliance performance in Supply Chain, through the implementation of the work processes, metrics, trend analysis and decision making

  • Supports business needs and customer delight by enabling compliant delivery of defect-free shipments in conformance with regional laws and regulations

  • Promotes the trade compliance advocacy in the region, working directly with customs and other country regulatory officials

  • Drives Dow forward as an industry leader in regulatory compliance

  • Works closely with Business Supply Chain, Leveraged Dow Logistics, Logistics Purchasing, Government Affairs organizations to align the Global ISC Sustainability Strategy into the regional priorities

  • Talent Selection, People Development and Succession Planning for ITC in the region

Critical success factors for this role include: critical thinking, specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in job discipline, leadership skills in team management or project management, knowledge on resource requirements, risk and/or complexity, decision making ability and business, government agencies and customer knowledge and network, strong communication to influence internal and external audiences.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant. A degree discipline in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering or other Sciences is preferred.

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a Supply Chain or Manufacturing Environment.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills

  • 4+ years of experience in Trade Compliance, International Trade, Information Technology, Finance and/or Legal

  • People leadership experience.
