About you and this role:

Dowhas an exciting opportunity available within our Product Safety Research group that is part of our Toxicology and Environment Research & Consulting (TERC) Team. The location is inMidland, Michiganas this role is aligned to the laboratory where investigative research is conducted to ensure the sustainability of our chemistries. Specifically, we are looking for anAnalytical Chemistwith experience and training in toxicology, pharmacology, chemistry, or a related field. The candidate will work closely with TERC scientists in synthesizing radiotracer materials for toxicokinetic and environmental fate studies to understand chemical Adsorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion (ADME) in mammalian species and the persistence of identified chemistries. This is a laboratory-based position, and the successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in studies and research projects. Activities include experimental design, radiotracer synthesis, and characterization of materials synthesized.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides science leadership and hands-on experience in conducting laboratory research studies to design, conduct and report on assigned studies

  • Designs and conducts synthetic procedures with Carbon-14 radioisotopes

  • Provides support for instrument set up, maintenance, validation, and troubleshooting, including working with vendors

  • Leads study team and leverages broader expertise to deliver high quality scientific results that are aligned with business and regulatory needs

  • Develops and implements technical solutions through hands-on experimentation/problem solving for the investigative research

  • Documents study results as a final report according to the business request, Statement of Work, study protocol and report templates, if available

  • Provides clear, concise communications both internally and externally including publications and presentations

  • Understands and follows appropriate EH&S standards, policies, and procedures applicable to their job. Leads by example in the area of safety behaviors and promotes safe work habits

  • Manages and maintains a radiotracer laboratory

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology or a related field

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in chromatographic analytical techniques including GC, GC/MS, LC and LC/MS

  • Hands on experience in conducting laboratory research studies and chemical synthesis

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Preferred skills:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology or a related field

  • Experience with chemical synthetic procedures and handling of Carbon-14 radioisotopes

  • Knowledge of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and/or analytical chemistry

  • Knowledge of organosilicon chemistry is beneficial

  • Familiarity with and willingness to operate under Good Laboratory Practices
