JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Harrisburg’s Aquatics Center (http://harrisburg.psu.edu/recreation-and-aquatics/aquatics) is seeking qualified applicants to join our team as Lifeguards to ensure the safety of all swimmers through surveillance and preventative lifeguarding . Various work shifts are available including coverage for special events scheduled beyond the Aquatics Center’s standard operating hours.

Job Duties

  • Surveillance and preventative lifeguarding of swimming area and monitor other areas of the aquatics center.

  • Support and/or manage the daily operations of the aquatics center and/or activities.

  • Enforce rules and regulations of the aquatics center and/or activities.

  • Greet students/visitors, provide information and/or refer as appropriate; act on routine requests.

  • Track facility and equipment usage; document and report maintenance problems, unusual conditions, and damages to the supervisor.

  • Adhere to safe and appropriate use of all equipment and modalities within established guidelines.

  • Administer routine first aid to recreational participants according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.

  • May rescue distressed persons, using rescue techniques and equipment.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and currently certified in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

  • Applicants must also successfully complete a knowledge and skills assessment as part of the hiring process.

  • Ability to maintain focus and be attentive to the swimmers’ abilities during the entire shift.

  • Remain calm in emergency situations and utilize independent judgement based on assessing the situation.

  • An aptitude for excellent interpersonal skills.
