A Optics Technician is needed for a technology company that designs and manufactures connectors and sensors for several industries, such as automotive, industrial equipment, data communication systems, and more, in the Middletown, PA area. This role focuses on assembling, testing, and optimizing fiber optic products for seamless production.

work hours: 8am to 5pm

responsibilities:

  • Provide quick-turn capabilities for prototypes and customer samples.

  • Design tooling to support new products and processes, meeting customer ramp-up schedules.

  • Create cost-effective solutions for initial NPI product builds and prepare products for production transfer.

  • Assemble and terminate optical connectors and fiber optic cable assemblies.

  • Test various configurations of fiber optic cable assemblies.

  • Assist in process development and problem-solving for bringing new optical products to market.

  • Operate fiber routers and complete over-molding processes.

  • Suggest product simplifications to reduce costs and improve manufacturing efficiency.

  • Collaborate with remote teams and external vendors.

  • Adapt to changing priorities while working under schedule pressures.

  • Terminate standard and new designs of fiber optic termini.

  • Support prototype product builds, test builds, and pre-release NPI builds.

  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently, including identifying issues and clearing faults.

  • Assist in estimating process step durations.

  • Help set up new manufacturing processes.

  • Propose process changes to improve overall efficiency.

  • Communicate effectively within a team to ensure clarity and customer satisfaction.

  • Perform soldering and PCBA assembly, including wire harnesses, connectors, passive components, and integrated circuits (ICs).

  • Use fiber optic and electronic test equipment, such as optical power meters, IL/RL tests, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMM), variable power supplies, variable attenuators, and optical/RF switches.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Complete high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Preferred: Two years of experience in a fiber optic manufacturing environment (not mandatory).

  • Manage time effectively to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Pay attention to detail when following BOMs, routers, and drawings/prints.

  • Demonstrate proficient dexterity and motor skills for intricate, delicate work.
