Position Details

Wesleyan’s Continuing Studies programs currently include Graduate Liberal Studies ( GLS ), Bachelor of Liberal Studies ( BLS ), undergraduate Summer Session and Winter Session and undergraduate Community Scholars. Continuing Studies also incubates new academic programs as pilot projects by developing program models and budgets.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions and Student Services, the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications researches, plans and implements paid and unpaid advertising, marketing, outreach, events and communications, to support recruitment and enrollments for the GLS program, the Summer and Winter Sessions, and other programs as applicable.

Wesleyan uses Slate for Admissions, a higher education CRM system explicitly designed to optimize communications, streamline application processing, and simplify decision release in admissions offices as well as building marketing and recruitment.

Primary responsibilities include:

SLATE CAPTAIN

  • Using Slate, build and execute recruitment and enrollment campaigns for Continuing Studies programs.

  • Design, implement and maintain forms, reports, admissions applications, and other Slate functions.

  • Research, review, propose, implement, and document updates to Slate CRM functionality.

  • Stay up to date with Slate’s marketing capabilities, Knowledge Base, updates and changes, via Technolutions conferences, seminars, tutorials, workshops, and more.

  • Provide Slate support to staff as needed.

    MARKETING / RECRUITMENT

  • Identify and target new audiences for Continuing Studies programs.

  • Develop and execute marketing plans in coordination with Director and Associate Director to support recruitment and drive enrollment and awareness across Continuing Studies programs.

  • Keep up to date with marketing and advertising methods, media, and trends in order to identify, research, and propose new marketing initiatives.

  • Identify, propose and implement paid advertising opportunities for Continuing Studies programs.

  • Act as point person with University Communications to produce engaging and on-brand marketing materials and advertising pieces including posters, direct mail, web copy, brochures, and other advertising methods for applicable programs.

  • Plan and execute paid social media and search engine campaigns.

  • Manage marketing budgets and invoices.

  • Review and analyze marketing data to build and produce reports as needed to demonstrate effectiveness of campaigns and return on investment.

  • Draft copy for marketing and recruitment materials.

  • Review program websites regularly, write copy, and suggest structural changes to optimize impact on recruitment and student services.

    ENROLLMENT SUPPORT

  • Propose, craft, and implement communications strategy for messaging current and former students using Slate.

  • With Associate Director, track admissions funnel numbers from inquiry to enrollment and provide progress reports.

    PROGRAM SUPPORT and PR

  • Gather and place (on social media) relevant social content that is engaging and helps drive brand awareness.

  • Assist with event staffing and support as needed for Continuing Studies and University-sponsored events.

  • Keep track of student/alumni accomplishments and share via GLS Facebook.

    OTHER

  • Assist with other Continuing Studies programs or other projects or duties as assigned.

This position is a hybrid position with on-campus and remote work schedules.

Remote work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY. (Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in marketing/paid advertising, education administration, or admission or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Excellent communication (grammar/composition/edit/proof reading) skills.

Proven strong experience with Slate.

Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proven ability to build relationships with individuals and collaborate with colleagues and partners.

Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

Ability to work some evening/weekend hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Workday, Peoplesoft, and/or other databases/ CRM software.
