State of Massachusetts Maintenance Officer I in Middleton, Massachusetts

/*EXPECTATED HOURS - 1PM-9PM*/ _General Statement of Duties:_ This position serves under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Maintenance - Middleton Facility. Responsible for the upkeep and repair of all infrastructure and operating equipment at the Middleton Facility. Assist the Supervisor of Maintenance in ensuring that policy and procedures are implemented. Perform other related duties such as training, explaining services, policies, rules and regulations to subordinates. _Supervision Received:_ Works under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Maintenance at the Middleton Facility or other employees of higher grades who provide instruction and guidance. As designee of the Supervisor of Maintenance, will assign work and review performance through oral and written reports for adherence to policy and conformance with rules and regulations. _Supervision Exercised:_ Exercises direct supervision over, assign work to, all janitorial and maintenance/repair personnel of lower rank on behalf of the Supervisor of Maintenance at the Middleton Facility. Oversee activities of inmate work crews assigned to the Maintenance Group. _Essential Functions:_ * May serve as Supervisor of Maintenance in their absence and take full and direct responsibility and authority for that position. Responsible for the operation of all Facility maintenance. * Direct janitorial and maintenance/repair personnel of lower rank during the shift, discussing all matters relating to facility operations. * Assists in implementing all policy and procedures for the Maintenance Group, bringing forth updates to policy and procedures in writing to the Supervisor of Maintenance. * Oversees service and repair functions, maintenance and ensure cleanliness of all areas throughout the facility. * Organizes inmate labor, coordinating the use of trustees with Security and Programs, and Inmate Training to maintain the facility in a cost-effective manner. * Responds in all emergency situations at the facility (if applicable). * Assist in snow removal operations. * Assist in the evaluation and maintenance of standards for cleanliness of the physical plant, including all buildings on site. * Serves as contact person linking the Supervisor of Maintenance with various operating departments within the facility. * Supervises specialist personnel in the installation of new equipment as necessary -- e.g., minor carpentry, wiring, plumbing work, etc. Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Expected hours are 1PM-9PM. _Required Education and Experience:_ * High school diploma or equivalent with a certificate or diploma from a recognized technical or vocational school. Three to five years’ experience in all areas of general maintenance and repair procedures for various complex mechanical and electrical systems. * Familiarity with state and municipal building codes a plus. * Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor vehicle Operator’s License. * Ability to act calmly, make decisions, and act quickly in emergency and dangerous situations.
