Middlebury College Coordinator, Contract Services in Middlebury, Vermont

Manages internal and contracted construction/renovation projects. Serves as customer liaison and owner's representative for construction, renovation, and maintenance activities including but not limited to: Interior and exterior painting, roofing, flooring, masonry, chimney liner and cleanings, carpentry renovations and repairs.

This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $72,480 - $90,594.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Serves as departmental contact and information spokesperson for faculty, students and staff regarding Facilities Services related construction, renovation, maintenance and emergency service issues.

  • Meets with faculty, staff, students and contractors to discuss maintenance and/or improvement projects, schedule activities and resolves difficult situations; disseminates information to College community with respect to work schedule, project updates and service/utility outages. Answers related questions and explains policies and procedures.

  • Confers with immediate supervisor, other facilities supervisors, managers, staff and department heads to coordinate Facilities Management activities, work projects, answer questions, handles special requests and/or problems.

  • Manages contractor services, inspecting and monitoring performance; Manages maintenance, inspection, and regulatory compliance tasks for areas including, but not limited to, elevators, bleachers and netting, fire extinguishers, lead paint, chimneys, and fall protection.

  • Performs on-going inspections of all campus facilities to identify maintenance and improvement projects. Solicits pricing from various contractors.

  • Provides trade groups and contractors with scheduling information necessary for the timely completion of related work projects; Assists trade groups to prioritize and coordinate workloads, manage work backlogs and procure materials.

  • Serves as manager on-call on a rotating basis to respond to facility emergencies outside of normal working hours; Performs associated Facilities Services work as requested, including, but not limited to: snow removal, event set-up and clean-up, truck loading and unloading, grounds maintenance and recycling operations.

  • Ensures self and team work in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Middlebury College and departmental policies, practices and procedures; works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, vocational and/or College training helpful; Specialized training in interpersonal communication helpful; Must have, or the ability to obtain, hazardous materials training, Vermont Lead Paint Renovator certification or other training/certification as required.

  • Extensive knowledge of building trades, VOSHA, ADA, environmental health and safety requirements, computer skills, and ability to manage and maintain accurate records.

  • Ability to work without supervision, excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational/planning skills, and ability to interact with diverse customer base.

  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to high volume of requests and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Must provide own vehicle for transportation of self, tools and procuring small materials; Driver's license and clearn driving record.

  • 5-10 years experience in building trades or equivalent. Previous project management experience preferred.

  • Performs associated Facilities Services maintenance work as requested, including but not limited to: snow removal, event set-up and clean up, truck loading and unloading and grounds maintenance.

  • Must be able to communicate both in writing and orally.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Must be able to stand for long periods, requires frequent bending, twisting, crouching, and reaching overhead. Must be able to climb stairs, walk long distances on a regular basis, and work on ladders, staging, and lifts. Must be available to work flexible shifts and overtime if necessary. May require working some weekends and holidays to complete projects without interruption to campus. Must be available for emergency maintenance calls on evenings and weekends according to rotational schedule.
