The Department of Anesthesiology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Surgery Scheduler to work in Miami, FL. The Surgery Scheduler assists with the coordination and scheduling of surgical procedures and serves as a liaison between physicians, medical staff, and other departments to ensure smooth scheduling operations. Moreover, the Surgery Scheduler works directly with patients and strives to provide an excellent healthcare experience.

  • Schedules surgical appointments and monitors cancellations, keeping daily schedule accurate and current.

  • Completes necessary paperwork prior to pre-op appointments and obtains referrals and authorizations.

  • Follows up with appropriate departments to ensure that all pre-op results are available prior to the procedure.

  • Informs patients regarding activities that will take place during the visit and provides pamphlet of appropriate surgical facility.

  • Apprises patients of financial responsibilities prior to the date of the procedure.

  • Obtains, confirms, and enters demographic, financial, and clinical information necessary for financial clearance of scheduled patient accounts.

  • Contacts patients’ families or physicians’ offices to obtain missing insurance information.

  • Verifies insurance and confirms insurance eligibility of patient coverage benefits, notifying patient and referring physician in the event of failed eligibility.

  • Obtains necessary authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals.

  • Notifies patients of liabilities prior to date of service and collects funds.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).

  • Identify, process, and track procedure peer to peers

  • Employee will process medication prior to authorizations

  • Coordination with physicians for attorney conference calls and/or depositions

  • Responsible for the completion of Worker’s Compensation DWC25 forms

  • Scheduling and coding interventional procedures

  • Review of clinical schedules (DAR)

  • Create, submit, and follow up with Medication and interventional procedure appeals

  • Recommends new approaches to management for enhancing performance and productivity.

  • Fellow rotation In-Service

  • Surgical productivity reports
