University of Miami Structural Heart Program Coordinator in Miami, Florida

The Physician Assistant assesses, plans, and provides patient care, under the supervision of a physician. An employee in this position also examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles medical data, including patients’ health history and physical examination results.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordination of patient evaluation and screening processes. Contact the referring providers. Receipt and review of pertinent clinical records. Coordination of record review with other team members. Involvement in patient and family education and consent. Patient tracking and triage. Help screen and evaluate potential candidates. Ensure patients receive necessary diagnostic testing. (LHC +/-PCI, ECHO, PFT’s, CTA, CT consults, STS score, Frailty, Labs) Educate the patient and family about the procedure. Organize heart team meetings. Contribute to procedure planning and post-procedurally monitor recovery. Prepare the patient and family for discharge. Arrange follow-up and stay in contact once the patient goes home or to another facility. Participates in patient satisfaction and quality initiatives. Coordination of inter-departmental processes and communication Participates in Outpatient clinic. Oversight of valve clinic schedule and processes Participation in the informed consent process including explanation of the clinical research protocol to patients and families in a manner that's easily understood and ensuring that their questions are answered appropriately. Coordination of mandated follow-up including and completion of patient visits and protocol-mandated procedures and testing Interaction with sponsors, data coordinating centers, core laboratory personnel and referring physicians as needed. Coordination of valve program team meetings/communication processes Maintenance of patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations Education of staff members as indicated. Assistance in training of new valve program team members as appropriate Other related responsibilities as indicated.Makes preliminary diagnosis or decides on follow-up procedures. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and blood work, and interprets test results. Performs minor procedures, such as immunizations, injections, suturing, and wound care. Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs, and counsels patients, and maintains records of treatments and results. Provides general health education and assists with emergency treatment and complex procedures. Answers calls and participates in audits and inquiries related to billed services. Records concise, accurate, and legible documentation of medical data on patients’ charts. Reports and documents significant information and changes in patients’ conditions. Interprets laboratory and radiological findings as they relate to patients' clinical presentation and current treatments. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Master’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Valid State of Florida Physician’s Assistant License

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
