Grant Thornton State and Local Tax - Income & Franchise - Managing Director in Miami, Florida

As the State & Local Tax Managing Director, you will have an assigned client base in various industries and will be responsible for the delivery of a full range of SALT services with a focus on income and franchise tax services – all with the resources, environment, and support to help you excel. You will collaborate with the local and Firm client service teams and lead staff on various tax consulting and research matters, on all phases of project and engagement management, because together is how we succeed. Your day-to-day may include: 

  • Lead and support business development activities, such as identification, proposal development and other pursuit activities at clients.

  • Manage business development activities, such as proposals, account teams, whitepapers, conferences, and/or other thought leadership material.

  • Maintain a high-performance working relationship with clients and work effectively with client management and staff at all levels to gather information and perform services.

  • Perform engagement management responsibilities, including performance reviews, task delegation, project scheduling, project financials, quality review and client management.

  • Lead multiple client service delivery teams in the active execution of engagements to help ensure compliance with firm and practice unit service delivery standards.

  • Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) externally with clients and internally with all levels of the organization to successfully accomplish objectives. 

  • Utilize previous industry experience to help companies set and achieve their long-term goals.

  • Use knowledge of the client, competition, market, product, or service to expand SALT and broader Firm services to current clients. Serve as business adviser to clients. 

  • Recruit, manage, develop, train, coach and mentor more junior professionals on projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    You have the following technical skills and qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.   

  • A minimum of thirteen plus years of related work experience in a similar consulting practice or function servicing clients at a national level.

  • Active CPA license, JD with active law license in good standing, or Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation.

  • Prior business development and sales experience required.

  • Prior experience in practice and team development required.

  • Lead business development activities, such as identification, proposal development, and other pursuit activities at clients.  

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to perform quantitative analysis and develop business cases.

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to travel as needed.
