The University of Miami Hospital and Clinics Sylvester Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Clinical Pharmacist - IT Systems.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The position of Clinical Pharmacist - IT Systems for the pharmacy department is the subject matter expert that will actively contribute to the design, development, implementation, analysis, support, and maintenance of the EPIC Willow/Beacon Hematology/Oncology Clinical Application for the UHealth System. This individual provides technical support to the application and provides an analysis of system requirements and specifications. The Clinical Pharmacist for IT Systems applications provides the necessary experience and knowledge to ensure that all aspects of the Clinical Application integrates with the other cross functional applications utilized by the organization. They will leverage their clinical expertise and lead opportunities to aid in the delivery of quality patient care across the UHealth System. This person must work effectively in a team environment, have relevant Epic Willow/Beacon and Hematology/Oncology clinical experience preferred and be able to serve as a liaison between Pharmacy and the EPIC IT teams.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with Epic and Vendor resources and the U Health organization as well as user community to ensure the application meets the organizations needs.

  • Works with other clinical teams to determine ways in which those applications can support the Hematology/Oncology and Pharmacy workflows.

  • Review and understand system options in the Clinical Applications and Epic Beacon and Willow application specifications and make recommendations. Perform in - depth analysis of workflows, charge methods, pharmacy build, report detail s , and other technical issues associated with the Clinical Applications and Epic Software.

  • Participate in application testing, simulations, and go-live activities , including production support of new projects or production enhancements.

  • Prioritize and implement requested changes to the system.

  • Analyze new functionality in new releases to determine how it should be used.

  • Participate in on-site support after system implementation, application enhancements or system upgrades.

  • Review operational policies and procedures to assess the need for user training for technology-enabled workflows.

  • Develop system workflows to i ntegrate system functionality with operational procedures. Participate in business and clinical operations meetings to assess user feedback, gather future requirements for modifications and provide a status to the group on competency , adoptions and utilization rates.

  • Collaborate with Business and Clinical System Analysts to ensure knowledge transfer of the technology-enabled user workflows and best practice use of the application .

  • Monitor assigned Magic Incident Reports and make referrals, direct issues appropriately, and resolve as applicable in a timely manner . Coordinate with application analysts to resolve issue tickets and communicates resolution to end users.

  • Ability to independently investigate and learn application and documentation software with minimal support.

  • Capable of independent decision making to meet the needs of the position, yet willing and able to collaborate with other team members.

  • Facilitate Oncology executive committee meetings to establish prioritization of protocol build, naming conventions, standardization of Standard of Care (SOC) protocols, policies and procedures to include protocol request, build, review and approval process.

  • Manage customer expectations and needs.

  • Oversee Oncology site disease work groups to ensure appropriate and timely build, review and approval of chemotherapy protocol template build in Beacon Oncology.

  • Assists in the development and review of protocol order sets prior to input in the database for utilization.

  • Strict adherence to change control process, assessing issues and developing resolutions.

  • Work with hospital billing application team to ascertain that appropriate charges are being calculated and dropping from the Oncology application.

  • Perform problem resolution and user support.

  • Support the pharmacy team to develop and optimize protocols (Build request, Citations, revisions, release dates, email correspondence etc).

  • Participates in those aspects of overall hospital quality and performance improvement activities that relate to the integrity of the research process.

  • Provides consultation and in-service programs and attends interdisciplinary rounds as needed and serves as Clinical Research IT liaison between the Principal Investigator, Clinical Research Associates, Phase I Manager, monitors, auditors and Corporate Services.

  • Assists in the planning, coordination and implementation of the research aspects for UM Corporate Services and ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures, federal, state and local regulations and protocol requirements.

  • Participate in the development, review and approval of all necessary Oncology Pharmacy process flows.

  • Analyze current distribution workflows and configure the system to support those workflows.

  • Act as a Liaison to Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee to translate Policy decisions into technology driven workflows.

  • Work in conjunction with report writers to ensure that Clinical Applications, including Beacon Oncology application has the necessary reports.

  • Other duties as assigned. Review

  • Collect information regarding potential system enhancement needs

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: (KSA)

  • Technical understanding of how pharmacy application build decisions affect things like Hematology/Oncology providers and staff.

  • Able to work independently while providing concise status reports with escalation as needed.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to enable interaction with clinical staff, departmental staff, clinical administrators, technical administrators, research division staff and the Implementation team.

  • Detail oriented with an ability to obtain and understand the needs of the UHealth Organization and user community.

  • Effectively direct meetings, prioritize, resolve conflicts, maintain issues lists, and manage timelines and milestones.

  • Able to maintain close vigilance to application specific and integrated decisions, as well as project level considerations and decisions.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and root cause analysis skills.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Competent in evidenced-based medicine and literature evaluation.

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Effectively manages conflicting views and opinions.

  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly, specifically complex technical information.

  • Always maintains a positive, professional attitude, even in difficult or stressful situations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctoral Degree of Pharmacy required or equivalent

  • Current/valid Florida Pharmacy License required

  • Relevant Epic Willow/Beacon certification

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of three years total professional and clinical experience preferred. A minimum of 2 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

  • Experience with Clinical Applications preferred, including but not limited to Epic Willow, Beacon Oncology, Alaris Guardrails.

  • Should possess implementation knowledge of chemotherapy protocols and clinical documentation experience.

  • Knowledge of operational healthcare, hospital, Joint Commission and Pharmacy Regulations.
