Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Animal Science Educator - Mexico, NY in Mexico, New York
This position will serve as the 4-H Community Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Oswego County and will teach traditional 4-H educational programming as well as 4-H Club programming and 4-H Animal Science educational programming for a menu of existing programs and activities in accordance with established program parameters. Program topics include, but are not limited to: livestock, horse, dog, vet science, Ag in the Classroom, horticulture, County and State Fair, and Club programming. This position will teach established 4-H programming in group and/or individual settings, both on-site and off-site utilizing a variety of delivery methods to include, but are not limited to: workshops, seminars, demonstrations, interest groups, newsletters, and mass media. This position will utilize research-based, existing materials and resources in all programming efforts. This position will also work closely with other Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County Staff.

POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time, exempt position - 100% FTE. The annual salary for this position is $41,704.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree.
One (1) year of volunteer or work-related experience.
Valid New York State Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Ability to work flexible hours which will include evenings, weekends and/or occasional holidays as appropriate.

Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, teach and evaluate informal education programs through a variety of program delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Responsibilities:
Delivery - 90%
Provide direct teaching and instruction in Animal Science to include: livestock, horse, dog, vet science, Ag in the Classroom, horticulture, County and State Fair.
Teach traditional 4-H programming and activities, including 4-H club programming.
Utilize established program resources and materials in program work.
Teach, existing traditional 4-H programming, including club programming and 4-H Animal Science programming both on-site and off-site, to include, but not limited to: Ag in the Class initiatives, Animal Science Camps/Clinics, Oswego County Fair, State Fair.
Teach existing educational programs and activities as needed via workshops, seminars, demonstrations, interest groups, newsletters, and animal science contacts utilizing established program parameters, while applying subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to deliver these educational programs as appropriate.
Teach already-established 4-H programming, including club programming and Animal Science programing and activities in support of other programming efforts as identified/needed to support the established Plan of Work.
Provide 4-H programming, including club programming and Animal Science educational programming via mass media.
Work to foster acceptance of 4-H programming, club programming and 4-H Animal Science programming, methods and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.
Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and 4-H Youth Development Program staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.
Serve as subject matter resource in the area of traditional 4-H programming, club programming and 4-H Animal Science programming.
Directly teach and participate in cross-programming efforts as appropriate.
Work with Oswego County 4-H Youth Development Staff to expand program offerings as a part of program delivery.
Evaluation - 5%
Implement program evaluation as designed.
Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data, to include: evaluating effectiveness of classes and instructors within program areas for all programs offered.
Assist Team Leader in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, make recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
This program may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources, and will exercise care when utilizing any Association owned property and/or resources while performing position responsibilities.
Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions.
Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
