JOB SUMMARY
Responsibilities include but are not limited to police and fire fighting services in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws, ordinances and regulations and the combating, extinguishing and prevention of fires.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the guidance and direction of the Public Safety Corporal Public Safety Sergeant, Public Safety Lieutenant, Assistant Director of Public Safety Director, or the Director of Public Safety as assigned. Follows chain of command.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties described below are indicative of what the Public Safety Officer might be asked to perform. Other duties may be assigned. This job description is to incorporate any municipal ordinances created for the position of Public Safety Officer.
Essential Functions:
Patrols streets, roads, alleys and highways to detect and prevent violations of motor vehicle or criminal laws.
Directs traffic in congested or emergency areas.
Assists the general public as much as possible and practical in a variety of problems or circumstances.
Arrests traffic violators and those committing a felony or misdemeanor, advising the person of his/her rights and processing the individual through appropriate channels.
May perform investigative, undercover intelligence work in a variety of vice operations such as narcotics, internal affairs, frauds and related areas.
May perform community relations work.
Notes and investigates suspicious persons and establishments, reporting them to superior officers.
Reports to scene of accidents and renders first aid to injured to the extent of their ability.
Investigates causes and results of accidents.
Submits daily activity reports reviewing with superior officers.
May collect, analyze, systematize and validate detailed evidence found in cases such as homicides, burglaries, suicides, sex related crimes, recovered stolen vehicles, arson, fatal accidents, etc.
Diagrams details of accident scenes (position of parties and vehicles, terrain, roadway, skid marks, point of impact, etc.), or in case of homicide sketches position of the body and original location of all collected evidence.
