[Position Summary [The Social Services Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the Metlakatla Indian Communitys Social Services Program. The Social Services program operates in compliance with the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and provides leadership, direction, and overall supervision to our social services team while ensuring delivery of culturally sensitive and effective case management services to the Tribal Members of the Metlakatla Indian Community. *[Role and Responsibilities [The Mission of the MIC Social Services Program is to enhance the overall wellbeing and quality of life for individuals and families of the Metlakatla Indian Community by providing a wide range of supportive services and resources.   • Promoting Social Justice and Equality by addressing systemic inequalities and promote fairness and justice in access to resources and opportunities.
  • Protecting the Vulnerable by safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of individuals, including children, elderly, and disabled persons, and those experiencing homelessness or domestic violence.
  • Strengthening Families and our Community by providing support to enhance resilience, promote healthy relationships, and prevent social isolation.
  • Empowering individuals by providing them with the tools, skills, and resources they need to overcome challenges, achieve self-sufficiency, and lead fulfilling lives.
  • Preventing and Addressing Social Problems by preventing problems such as poverty, substance abuse, mental illness, and crime, and in intervening when these issues arise to minimize their impact.
  • Advocacy and Social Change through systemic reform to address root cause of social problems and create a more just and equitable society.
  1. Leadership and Management

    • Ensure compliance with local law and procedures to ensure an effective case management structure.
    • Implement intake, reporting, and investigation processes to ensure the safety of our members and child members.
  • Staff Management: recruit, hire, train and supervise the social services team. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to enhance team performance and morale.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the departments operating budget and allocate resources effectively to ensure fiscal responsibility in all operations by managing expenses, identifying cost saving opportunities, and seeking additional funding resources.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with local departments involved in the reporting structure of MIC including but not limited to: Metlakatla Police Department, the ICWA Case Manager, Wil la mootk Counseling Center, and the Annette Island Service Unit.
