SAM LLC GIS Cadastral Mapping Technician in Merriam, Kansas

Your Impact at SAM

  • Ability to interpret as-built drawings, construction plans, engineering plans, recorded maps, deeds, legal descriptions, surveys, highway right-of-way plans, imagery and related source documents and incorporates them into GIS using various methods including coordinate geometry (COGO), digitizing, and GPS.

  • Revises existing Assessor GIS maps or draws new Assessor GIS maps using Esri ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Desktop software to incorporate new developments, subdivisions, easements, annexations, or other similar boundary changes.

  • Maintains comprehensive base maps for assessment and other purposes.

  • Provides information in writing and over the telephone regarding assessment maps, mapping processes and procedures, ownership history, newly created or divided parcels, technical aspects of assessment map preparation, and the standard Map and Parcel system.

  • Identifies, reconciles, and translates legal descriptions into precise scale drawings of property.

  • Interpolates between new maps and old maps to position changes accurately with adjoining parcels.

  • Resolves discrepancies in title, erroneous and incomplete property descriptions and maps, through title and legal description research and through communication with the county Assessor.

  • Follow quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes, and perform routine data management tasks, such as data validation and correction, queries and editing in GIS to ensure GIS data accuracy, integrity, and completeness.

What You Bring to SAM

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science or similar field is preferred but not required

  • 2-5 years working with cadastral data in an Esri GIS environment

  • Strong understanding of Public Land Survey System

  • Ability to read and interpret deeds, survey plats and as-builts

  • Familiar with Esri COGO tools

  • Knowledge of modern cartographic standards and principles

  • Advanced statistical, mathematical, and methodology skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Minimal travel may be required
