Wells Fargo Lead Software Engineer, Internal Generative AI Applications in MENLO PARK, California

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design and develop backend systems supporting Wells Fargo’s internal generative AI applications. In this role, you will work within Enterprise Functions Technology (EFT) to build and maintain reliable, secure, and scalable solutions that improve employee workflows and enable seamless system integrations. Your work will directly align with Wells Fargo’s mission to innovate and enhance the employee experience using advanced technology.

In this role, you will:

  • Build systems involving data ingestion pipelines, reliable service orchestration, backend application state management, and data layer implementation for use with Large Language Models (LLM) that support powerful generative AI capabilities for internal Wells Fargo users.

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact

  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs

  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors

  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives

  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals

  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 5+ years of experience with C#

  • 5+ years of experience with complex SQL and database development

  • 5+ years of experience with API gateway integrations and orchestrating data movement and workflows across systems.

  • 5+ years of experience architecting, developing, publishing, and consuming APIs

  • 5+ years of experience with Test Driven Development (TDD), Unit Testing, integration testing, API testing, Performance Testing, and Functional testing

  • 2+ years of experience with generative AI technologies, large language modeling (LLM), including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic workflows.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in backend application software development, with ability to quickly adapt to C# and Python code bases.

  • Extensive experience working with diverse data sets and source data formats and structures.

  • Experience working within an Agile environment

  • Familiarity with building solutions that prioritize end-user satisfaction and usability.

  • Proven ability to design and implement reliable data ingestion pipelines.

  • Proficiency in test-driven development practices.

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and risk management within software development.

  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Position Pay Range:

New York City, New York $133,300 - $237,100

  • 3+ days per week in office

  • 10% travel to support business objectives

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
