The Town of Medfield is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Traffic Supervisor. This position is 1 hour per day - Monday through Friday. Job Description below. Title: Traffic Supervisor Days: Monday Through friday start and end time per Day: 7:00am to 8:00am (1 hour per day) Starting rate: \$18.93/hr- \$20.60 DOQ Pay Grade 20: Full Range \$18.93 - \$23.71 The Traffic Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safety of pedestrians, particularly children, as they cross streets and intersections. This role involves managing traffic, assisting pedestrians, and enforcing safety measures to create a secure environment for students and other pedestrians. Key Responsibilities: Pedestrian Assistance: Guide and assist pedestrians, especially children, in safely crossing streets at designated crosswalks and intersections. Ensure that pedestrians wait for safe crossing signals or conditions before moving across the street. Traffic Control: Monitor and manage vehicle traffic at intersections to ensure smooth and safe passage for pedestrians. Use hand signals, stop signs, and other tools to control vehicle flow and enforce traffic rules. Communication and Interaction: Communicate clearly and effectively with drivers, pedestrians, and school personnel to ensure safety and compliance with traffic regulations. Provide directions and answer questions from the public as necessary. Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies or accidents, including alerting emergency services and providing assistance as needed. Follow established procedures for handling emergencies and reporting incidents. Reporting: Report any traffic violations, safety hazards, or incidents to the appropriate authorities or school officials. Maintain records of observations, incidents, and any unusual occurrences. Equipment Handling: Ensure that crossing guard equipment, such as stop signs and safety vests, is in good condition and used correctly. Report any issues with equipment or maintenance needs to the supervisor. Compliance: Adhere to all relevant safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations related to pedestrian and traffic safety. Follow instructions from school administrators, law enforcement, or other relevant authorities. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior experience in a similar role or in a customer service position is an advantage but not required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods. Capability to work in various weather conditions and manage outdoor tasks. Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand or walk for extended periods. Capability to lift and carry crossing guard equipment as needed (up to [specify weight, e.g., 25 pounds]). Good visual and auditory acuity to monitor traffic and communicate effectively. Work Environment: Outdoor work in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. Work during peak traffic hours, typically in the mornings and afternoons on school days.
