In this critical leadership role as the head of steelmaking at Cascade Steel, you will lead an experienced team providing direction, development, and leadership to all employees. You will oversee all aspects of the melt shop operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met, while also managing transportation needs for the operators of the steel rolling mill.

Melt Shop Operations:

  • Develop and maintain safety standards for the steel plant, including investigating and reporting accidents, and continually improving processes to maintain a safe work environment. Provide appropriate training as necessary to ensure safe procedures.

  • Take a leadership role in leading production and quality improvements, including trouble shooting for the steel plant.

  • Coordinate and schedule all department operations with the sales department to ensure timely and efficient production of product materials.

  • Develop and maintain the department budget, evaluating both long and short-term capital needs, and monitoring all departmental purchases and expenditures.

  • Manage multiple projects and priorities, ensuring efficiency, timeliness, and follow-through.

  • Ensure department objectives are attained according to the strategic initiatives.

  • Oversees quality control processes, procedures, and documentation, while challenging and encouraging employees to identify ways to improve processes and procedures.

Leadership:

  • Manage the work of both union and non-union staff, ensuring the union contract is followed, appropriate staffing levels are maintained, and conducting annual performance reviews for non-union employees.

  • Set and manage departmental goals for production, efficiency, and safety, and identify and communicate goals to employees.

  • Partner with the leaders in other departments (Sales, rolling mill, lab, and yard) and administration personnel.

  • Assist with the resolution of problems that arise in the mill. Assist the COO and other department heads in projects and development of long-term plans.

Requirements

what will make you a top candidate…

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in steelmaking(EAF, BOF, Caster, Refractories)

  • Proven leadership experience within electric steelmaking in a supervisory role.

  • In-depth knowledge of steelmaking processes, equipment, and technologies.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field is preferred but not required
