PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Legal Administrative Assistant at our Tysons, Virginia location. The primary purpose of this job is to provide assistance to personnel in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) by preparing legal documents, performing research and providing administrative support.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all administrative duties necessary to ensure OGC efficiency with limited direction including, but not limited to, follow-through of assigned confidential projects, routing problem resolution, research and information gathering and preparation for General Counsel, credit union executives and Board members and tracking of budget compliance, generating reports as requested.

  • Administer various actions and activities associated with credit union and subsidiaries litigation including, but not limited to, drafting court pleadings; administering bankruptcy cases and garnishment actions; preparing either directly or in consultation with OGC personnel summonses and subpoenas; interacting with outside counsel, government/court officials and insurance company personnel to obtain information and process actions.

  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments and travel arrangements for OGC personnel.

  • Receive, log and distribute mail, taking action on routine matters, composing correspondence as necessary.

  • Prepare and maintain various reports, files and tracking systems, ensuring the timely update and processing of information and developing enhancements to systems as needed.

  • Oversee miscellaneous section activities including acting as notary and ensuring maintenance of area.

  • Provide administrative/clerical support for OGC personnel including, but not limited to, preparation of correspondence, word processing, filing documentation; budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Preparation of correspondence, documents and/or presentations, spreadsheets, and text slides; responsible for formatting consistency and accuracy on time-sensitive, high-profile documents.

  • Interact with different specialists to assist with administration of levies or bankruptcy cases, garnishments and other attachments.

  • Perform simple legal research as directed using appropriate sources including Westlaw and other automated legal databases.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field is required.

  • Formal secretarial/clerical training is preferred.

  • Experience with word processing and other automated office systems, including automated legal databases required.

  • High level of proficiency with PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel, and other programs required.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.

Travel

Travel will not be required for this role.
