General Statement of Duties

Performs unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and service work on buildings and grounds, equipment and machinery, and irrigation systems; performs related work as required.

Classification Summary

This is an entry level, seasonal position; the primary function of an employee in this class is to perform unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, inspection, and service work on City golf course grounds, including equipment, machinery, irrigation systems, and structures. Additional duties include soil and plant cultivation, pesticide and fertilization applications, cleanup duties and public restroom cleaning and maintenance. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and some direction may be provided to community service workers or other subordinate employees. The principal duties of this class are performed outdoors and may include working in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools, equipment and hazardous chemicals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, watering, aerating, and application of herbicides and fertilizers;

Changes cup and pin locations, moves tee markers, as directed;

Performs general landscape and cleanup duties, including trash and debris removal;

Maintains and cleans public restroom and drinking fountain facilities;

Inspects, maintains, and repairs benches, tables, slabs, receptacles, course structures, and signs;

Maintains fairways, greens, tee areas, sand traps, rough and open spaces, lawns, and other course elements and planting areas;

Assists with turf, tree, flower, and shrub planting, trimming and pruning, and removal;

Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on motorized, mechanical and grounds keeping equipment;

Performs operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of automated irrigation systems, including lines and heads;

Performs custodial work in course facilities, including but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing and steam cleaning carpets, buffing and waxing floors, cleaning and dusting furniture and fixtures, changing light bulbs, and related custodial duties, as assigned;

Provides facility and equipment security;

Repairs vandalism and performs maintenance on buildings and structures, including painting, plumbing, carpentry, and related semi-skilled building trades work;

Assists during construction projects;

Refers information and answers inquiries from the public to the Supervisor;

Assists in City parks and other public area maintenance, as needed;

Sets up for reservations and special events;

Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

May assist with construction of new facilities, as directed;

Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Basic grounds maintenance skills, including but not limited to, mowing, planting, weeding, pruning, irrigation, and fertilization;

Botany, horticulture, tree identification, turf and/or pest control;

Basic custodial skills, including but not limited to, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, and cleaning restrooms, floors, windows, furniture, and fixtures;

Basic building trade skills, including but not limited to, carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing;

Applicable regulations and polici s regarding safe work practices, including application of herbicides and pesticides.

Ability to:

Follow written and oral instructions;

Operate power equipment, including but not limited to, grounds keeping and turf equipment, riding and walk-behind mowers, trimmers, tractor, and related equipment;

Operate hand tools;

Operate a motor vehicle;

Operate, adjust, and monitor automated sprinkler control systems;

Maintain maintenance records, logs, and documentation;

Work weekends, evenings, and holidays;

Communicate effectively with the public, supervisors, and other City employees.

Acceptable Experience and Training

High school diploma or GED equivalency; and

Some experience in building and grounds maintenance is preferred; or

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which
