POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: WATER PLANT LAB TECHNICIAN
DUTIES
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The essential function of the position within the organization is to ensure the City water supply is
safe for drinking.
PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees
may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Performs all tests associated with drinking water.
Performs chemical examinations of untreated raw and treated potable water for pH, turbidity,
chlorine, residual, total organic carbon and other water examination tests.
Order lab chemicals, equipment and merchandise for lab and plant operators.
Operate water plant as needed including backwashing filters, adjusting chemical dosage rates,
etc.
Maintains records of all tests performed and keeps logs of plant operations.
Records readings from meters and gauges.
Takes samples of water for testing.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

dosage rates.

forms; speaks routine sentences using standard grammar.

Performs semi-routine work following procedures, with occasional problems; requires normal
attention for accurate results.
