POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: WTP SUPERINTENDENT

DUTIES

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The essential function of the position within the organization is to supervise the day-to- day operations of the City of McAlester Water Treatment Plant. This position is responsible for scheduling operators, ordering chemicals, and determining and implementing treatment of potable water to meet state and federal standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.

Provides operational oversight of water treatment plant.

Schedule and directs the duties of the operators.

Orders chemical metering equipment; Orders chlorine, caustic soda, and alum replacement polymer; Orders equipment for repair, replacement, or maintenance of water treatment plant.

Performs jar tests to determine correct polymer to use as coagulant; Run pH tests on water to determine correct dosage of caustic soda; Run chorine residual test to determine correct dosage of chlorine; Run turbidity test to determine correct filter to waste duration; Run colorimetric analysis to determine manganese concentration and required sodium permanganate dosage.

Operates water plant as needed including backwashing filters, adjusting chemical dosage rates, etc.

Performs oversight of the Water Plant budget.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS: Mathematics deals with quantities, magnitudes, and forms and their relationships and attributes by the use of numbers and symbols.

Uses basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving circumferences, areas, and volumes and/or computing laboratory formulas, and chemical dosage rates.

COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Communications involves the ability to read, write, and speak.

Reads routine sentences or instructions; writes routine sentences and completes routine work forms; speaks routine sentences using standard grammar.

COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Complexity of Work addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, and con entration required by the position and the presence of any unusual pressures.

Performs semi skilled work involving rules/systems with frequent problem solving; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
