POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: PLANT OPERATOR
DUTIES
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The essential function of the position within the organization is to ensure the water from the City
of McAlester is properly treated and to discharge into the receiving stream.
PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees
may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Responsible for running various tests and recording results of the test; Tests may include pH,
turbidity, chlorine, residual, total organic carbon, and other water examination tests.
Record and document test readings and results from samples.
Document processes and maintenance of facility equipment. Set-up and calibrate equipment;
Ensure all equipment is operating correctly.
Lubricate and repair equipment, pumps, motors, etc.
Tear down and clean pumps to prevent clogs.
Clean and bleach weirs.
Send sludge from clarifiers to lagoons.
Clean clarifiers.
Operates water plant as needed including backwashing filters and adjusting chemical dosage
rates as needed.
Care and maintenance of grounds and buildings; Mow, weed-eat.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

dosage rates.

basic grammar.
