The daily routines consist of:

1. Maintain watering systems, including freezing prevention and or repair as a result thereof.
2. Proper handling of calves and cows in various pregnancy and birthing stages with additional care to accommodate cold and or freezing temperatures at the time.
3. Processing (sorting) of calves to include sorting and taking care of sick animals in need of application of pharmaceuticals with ongoing treatment per protocol.
4. Ongoing repair of feedlot equipment and facilities, including welding fences and structures.
5. Operating equipment to haul hay using tractors and wagons.
6. Remove manure from cattle pens.
7. Required documentation of all activities in the feedlot tracking program.

Another factor that increases the workload during winter, is the extreme cold temperatures and harsh winter conditions of Nebraska. Relevant studies list Nebraska as a severe environment for cattle to survive and therefore greater attention to the cattle is required to ensure the herd can make it through the winter season. The snowy period of the year lasts from December to February and snowfall is from 6 - 9 inches during these months. Therefore, the cattle require more nutrition and extra care to ensure health issues do not arise or can be treated in a timely manner. Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Feeding, watering, herding, castrating, branding, weighing, catching, and loading animals;
• Examining animals to detect diseases and injuries;
• Assisting in birthing, administering medications, vaccinations, or insecticides;
• Maintaining winter animal housing areas;
• Using diggers, shovels and other equipment needed;
• Ongoing maintenance includes cleaning, maintaining and repair of equipment, various workshop tasks as well as maintenance of grain bins and general buildings;
• Use of various farm and cattle specific farming equipment; and
• Maintaining records, as required by the various relevant entities, clients and in-house management
