Job Description:

The Director of Operation Management is responsible for meeting all cost, quality, delivery, and safety objectives for programs/products from New Product Introduction (NPI) through Full Rate Production (FRP) and sustainment. The role has direct responsibility for Production, Manufacturing, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and Facilities and indirect responsibility for Supply Chain and Supplier Quality. Partners with Business Development, Program Management, Engineering, Contracts, Finance, etc., to ensure successful bid and execution of programs on-time, under budget, safely, and with perfect quality.

Conducts Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) to align demand, supply, capacity, financials, and Customer requirements as part of Master Scheduling the factory. Drives employee engagement, productivity, and efficiency. Manages human resource planning. Supports and approves proposals. Develop and manages financials, department, and overhead budgets. Owes the Capital Expenditure (CapEx) process, plans, and execution.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement systems, processes, and tools that drive operational performance daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually.

  • Lead a site/plant with 400+ employees with a P&L $300+ million.

  • Develops the manufacturing plan and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.

  • Achieves optimum employee levels with the least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.

  • Formulates and recommends manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.

  • Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data.

  • Directs the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards.

  • Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).

  • Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).

  • Participates in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives with the senior management team in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.

  • Defines, schedules, and manages all cost proposal activities for manufacturing related elements of proposals.

  • Manages highly experienced professionals, supervisors, or managers.

  • Leads one or more departments.

  • Communicates with parties inside and outside of the organization on matters of strategic importance to influence senior leadership on new concepts, practices, and approaches.

  • Establishes overall direction for new processes, systems, and solutions. Recommends and implements strategies and develops operational plans/goals that directly impact the mid- to long-term function or business area achievements.

  • Requires advanced management, business knowledge, leadership capabilities and broad experience across multiple related professional disciplines.

  • Responsible for establishing the direction for new processes, systems, solutions, and products using significant conceptualization, reasoning, and interpretation.

  • Solutions are innovative and often define best practice for the future. Opportunities for problem solving and innovation are regularly complex, requiring broad-based consideration of variables that impact multiple areas of the organization.

  • Extensively analyzes implications of both near and long-term solution.

  • Owns and develops tactical and operational plans and goals for a business area or function, which may include oversight for multiple departments.

  • Recommends and operationalizes strategies that have a direct impact on the mid- to long-term function/area achievements.

  • Work requires a high degree of responsibility for resources, and frequently influences business decisions made by leadership.

  • Recommends and implements new products, processes, policies, standards or operating plans in support of job function strategy. Typically has budget or Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability for the department.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience OR Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.

  • A minimum of 13 years of prior experience in the below:

  • Previous Operations plant manager experience leading teams of +250 required

  • Experience with site operational performance turn-arounds (“Return to Green”)

  • Experience in at least 2-3 operations functions (e.g. Production, Manufacturing, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Facilities, Supply Chain, and/or Supplier Quality).

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing systems, processes, and tools that drive operational performance daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually.

  • Demonstrated experience with the development of manufacturing plans and the establishment of procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations that ensured that products conformed to established customer and company quality standards.

  • Demonstrated experience achieving optimum employee levels with the least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.

  • Experience formulating and recommending manufacturing policies and programs that guided the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.

  • Demonstrated experience identifying, recommending, and implementing changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data.

  • Requires advanced management, business knowledge, leadership capabilities and broad experience across multiple related professional disciplines.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and evaluate quality system procedures and technical and non-technical documents relating to the operations of the business.

  • Ability to plan, organize, communicate and direct Operations resources to ensure high quality products and services at competitive prices.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, legal documents, and financial reports including cost analysis, profits, and losses, profit margins and cash flow.
