Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:

  • Verifies records and prioritizes incoming materials samples so they are properly identified, logged in, and scheduled for testing to meeting required time frames.

  • Performs all aspects of bituminous and concrete testing.

  • Perform I.A.I. duties and Plant Certification in the absence of the Independent Assurance Inspector.

  • Maintains tests, calibrates and documents of materials lab equipment to meet AMRL, CCRL, ACI Accreditation, to ensure that equipment is ready for use and accuracy of equipment life is maximized.

  • Perform Lead Lab roles in the absence of the District Lab Supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned. May include but not limited to performing all aspects of aggregate testing and assisting Soils Engineer in the preparation of Materials Design Recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Specialist level can be achieved with:

  • Four years of experience performing materials testing.

OR

  • Three years of experience performing materials testing activities and one year of experience in any roadway construction, engineering support or roadways maintenance areas.

  • Note: A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

  • A valid MN Class “D” Driver’s license

  • Technical Certifications:

  • Must have the following Technical Certifications at time of hire:

  • Aggregate Production

  • Bituminous Plant I

  • Bituminous Street

  • Concrete Field I

  • Grading & Base I

  • Concrete Plant

  • Must obtain within 1 year from hire:

  • Bituminous Plant II

  • Concrete Strength

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this job will vary, but typically requires occasionally lifting articles such as 60-pound material samples, and frequent lifting and/or carrying objects or materials such as aggregate, bituminous, concrete samples in various shapes and weights. This job may require walking or standing to significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and leg controls.

Weather elements: May require some exposure to weather elements.
