Position Summary
The Capacity Management Coordinator (CMC) will have the complex responsibility for patient flow/throughput, throughout the organization to best meet patient care needs and maximize bed resources. The CMC is responsible for all patient bed assignments including patients needing admission from internal and external sources, transfer center, Emergency Department, direct admits, post-ops and electives. They will also facilitate timely transfers between inpatient units and the ICU. The CMC will help optimize capacity management, and ED boarding hours, and work alongside inpatient leadership teams and the senior management team.
Essential Functions
Ensures admissions are appropriate.
Attends all staffing meetings to help evaluate needs across the house.
Evaluates all bed requests using approved criteria for level of care and bed assignments.
Assists in implementing pre-admissions, admission, and transfer protocols.
Begins the day with daily supervisors' report to understand the staffing assignments and initial placement of patients especially the boarded patients in the ED. Meets with unit leaders and charge nurses to prioritize bed needs, potential movement of patients, one-call priorities, ICU bed placement and downgrades, and potential staffing barriers or needs.
Works closely with the charge nurses in the ED and inpatient units to mitigate delays in reporting or transfers.
Works closely with EVA to discuss bed management and cleaning priorities.
Regular timely reporting of bed and resource utilization to senior management.
Ensures the application of best practice including the generation of action plans to continuously improve the effectiveness of the bed management function.
Works closely with Case Mgt/Care Coordination team to expedite the discharge process.
Takes ultimate responsibility for the effectiveness of service delivery.
Create a culture of accountability, openness to change, respect for the individual and teamwork that support the ethos of the hospital.
Work with all clinical specialties and referral services to accommodate patients who require elective admission.
Understand all points of access into the Hospital for patients and be able to deal with competing interests.
Liaise effectively with consultants and their support staff, emergency department staff, nursing management and other staff as appropriate to ensure effective guidance and protocol application to all admissions, discharges, and transfers across the Hospital.
Liaise with senior management to develop service plans and report frequently on progress against them.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Associate degree in nursing
Bachelor’s degree in nursing (Preferred)
*Required Skills *
Requires critical thinking skills, sound clinical assessment and decisive judgment, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and anticipate trends, identify opportunities and forward plan for service developments. Must have experience with Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Cerner EMR. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
Work Experience
Three (3) years post licensure acute care RN experience (preferably in critical care or emergency services). Leadership experience preferred.
