POSITION SUMMARY

Support the Advising Office and department of Student Success and Engagement through direct service to students, programming, and department administration. Provide holistic academic advising and coaching to an assigned caseload of students. Help students develop academic plans and register for classes, identify career and transfer pathways, assist students experiencing academic and personal difficulties, and make referrals to appropriate campus and community resources. Act as the College transfer coordinator and primary transfer advisor.  Coordinate programs and projects related to student success, retention, and student engagement. 

Support student success as outlined with department goals, the strategic plan, and the advances of the mission of Marion Technical College (the "College"). 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Advising -- 50%

Provide academic advising to an assigned caseload of students for successful course, goal, or degree completion, with a focus on Associate of Arts/Associate of Science and Business majors, as well as other technical majors and non-degree/transient students taking courses for transfer. Advise students on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, placement, career exploration, registration, graduation, and transfer options, and make referrals to campus resources as appropriate. Maintain accurate advising records.

Develop individualized academic plans using My Plan (Watermark Student Success and Engagement) and monitor student progress toward degree completion. Contact each advisee each semester to register and plan for upcoming terms, making adjustments as needed. 

Support students experiencing academic and personal issues and concerns. Assess students for non-academic risk factors and identify barriers for academic retention and completion. Make referrals to appropriate student services office or external agencies for additional support. Work with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution and empower students to advocate for themselves.

Monitor students' academic performance and progress. Intervene with students who are not reaching their academic goals. Perform outreach to students who receive an early alert for academic or course concerns, attendance, or midterm grade reports. Coach students on academic warning or probation to help them return to good academic standing and complete academic goals and/or degree program.

Serve as the primary transfer advisor for the college, assisting students with exploring transfer options that align with their academic interests and career goals, selecting appropriate transferable coursework, applying to transfer institutions, addressing questions about the transfer matriculation process, transfer scholarships, etc. Maintain a strong working knowledge of Ohio Guaranteed
