Responsibilities The Residential Counselor Supervisor is responsible for managing the Residential Counselor team to ensure quality patient care is delivered and maintained. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Responsible for staff supervision and management Responsible for professional development Responsible for fiscal management and quality assurance within the Residential Counselor team Sets and demonstrates standards for behavior management, rapport building, and limit setting to provide a safe and positive resident experience Establishes supportive and motivational relationships with clients and support an atmosphere of safety and security Responsible for staff selection, evaluation, training and retention of Residential Counselors Participates in onboarding new Residential Counselors Consults with Site Operation Directors and supervisors to ensure quality care is provided and documented in accordance with Department of Human Services standards, as well as internal documentation standards Responsible for ensuring staff engage in effective behavior management Responsible for assessment of risk and consultation with the on-call physician to determine changes to monitoring status, or transfer in the case of medical or psychiatric emergency Responsible for active communication with Residential Counselors in order to address any questions or issues that arise regarding resident care that do not rise to the level of on-call psychiatry or administration Meets regularly with Residential Counselors to review and coordinate facility and department activities Shares in the responsibility of coordinating emergency coverage or staff absences to ensure proper coverage Participates in rotating After-Hours On-Call shift of one week in length, approximately every other month Demonstrates support and provides leadership for growth, vision and opportunities that are consistent with organizational direction and goals Oriented and educated in gender, cultural differences, and in age appropriate care. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent education and work experience One to two years experience working with children and adolescents in day treatment, residential, or other mental healthcare setting is preferred Experience as a supervisor is required Experience in crisis de-escalation Must have computer skills using Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external staff Knowledge of verbal de-escalation skills Ability to provide back-up for Residential Counselors and perform other direct care duties, as needed Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergency situations Ability to make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances After training, be able to manage disruptive and explosive patients.
