CARE Counseling Licensed Mental Health Professional: Play Therapist in Maple Grove, Minnesota

Position Purpose: This position provides an array of services using evidence-based practices that support client treatment, and facilitate safe, secure and therapeutic interventions. Responsibilities include developing therapeutic alliance, clinical skills application, conducting diagnostic and comprehensive assessments, individualized treatment planning and daily interventions. Additional responsibilities include clear and timely documentation and delivering and developing an individualized plan of care consistent with client goals and objectives.

Organization Relationships: This position reports directly to the site lead for licensed staff and will interact on a regular basis with other members of an interdisciplinary team. This position works cooperatively with all organizational staff.

Principal Accountabilities/Essential Duties:

  • Regularly perform intakes, diagnostic evaluations, prepare and monitor treatment planning while engaging in appropriate client therapy practices and following guidance provided by one's supervisor.

  • Form effective therapeutic alliances, supporting each client's unique needs and goals, with the result in positively impacting client outcomes and retention.

  • Assess the emotional needs of children in consultation with other professionals Undertake assessment for appropriateness of play therapy and engage in play therapy with children in response to referrals.

  • Demonstrate advanced level of clinical knowledge and modeling as it relates to the individual's goals, treatment plan and diagnosis.

  • Engage in crisis interventions, stabilization, and de-escalation for clients experiencing mental health symptoms or other emotional and/or behavioral responses while prioritizing client safety.

  • Timely and accurately document all client interactions as dictated by law, ethical standards, board requirements and CARE Counseling policy and practices.

  • Providing one-to-one supportive counseling, observe client behavior, physical and emotional symptoms and perform behavioral management interventions, as needed.

  • Participates in creating an overall positive atmosphere with other staff and clients.

  • Attends and actively participates group consultation, team meetings, and other meetings as required by position, demonstrating preparation, timeliness, and professionalism.

  • Demonstrate a willingness to incorporate manager and leadership feedback to continuously improve standards of client care.

  • Maintain a full client caseload and additional responsibilities as assigned, resulting in an average quota of 28 points weekly or designated work model.

  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

• Passing all background and credentialing requirements for facility and position; and

• The ability to pass the screening required by Federal Human Services Office of Inspector General to assure that person has not been excluded from working in the Health Care Programs which receive federal funding.

• Ability to pass the Rule 11 Criminal Background Screening and the Sexual Exploitation of Patients by Psychotherapists screen required by the Department of Human Services.

Education and Experience

• Masters or Doctoral Degree in behavioral science/related field (psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, education, etc.)

Certifications/Licenses

• Maintain an active, independent clinical license as a Mental Health Professional in the State of Minnesota (LP, LPCC, LICSW, LMFT).

• Registered Play Therapist (RPT), experience with DC 0-5, or someone with play therapy training (Theraplay, child centered, somatic experiencing, CPP) preferred for working with early childhood and young children.
