CDM Smith has a new career opportunity for a proven leader in the Environmental Services Group! We are looking for a self-motivated Seller-Doer Solid Waste Engineer/Project Manager to join our growing Southeastern Region, VA, NC, SC, TN, GA, or FL. This is a key role with the potential to have significant impact on client development and project management on a wide variety of environmental projects with experience in solid waste/landfills/CCR permitting, design and construction. In this position, you will be a key point of contact for our environmental clients throughout the southeast while partnering with CDM Smith Sales leadership to identify, develop, and deliver project opportunities and growth-related initiatives and managing our stellar projects.

As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:

• Managing and leading multi-discipline civil environmental projects

• Contributing to client business development activities for capturing new projects across the Southeast

• Being active in the municipal public works and utility industry while keeping abreast of emerging technologies, research and development opportunities, and conference/committee participation in professional associations

• Arranging, facilitating and preparing for meetings/coordination with municipal clients such as: Cities, Towns, and Counties as well as key project stakeholders.

• Building and managing relationships with key municipal planning leaders

• Developing budget, scope and schedule; monitoring adherence for tasks and projects managed.

• Responsible for implementation of firm’s quality procedures at project and task levels.

• Providing high level planning and programming analysis work including preparation of technical documents and reports.

• Serving as a mentor to junior staff, including the coordination and reviewing of project assignments

• Effectively working with key technical specialists, project team members, and delivery managers

• Providing oversight/administration of field construction work, including engineering services during construction

• Enhancing your career and leadership development through many PD credit-based learning opportunities through CDM Smith University

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree. 7 years of related experience. PMP (PMI), CCM or DBIA certification is required (within 12 months of hire or promotion onto the Approved Project Manager list). Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

• The ideal candidate will be a PE, PG, or Board-Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE.) with EOR experience in solid waste/landfill/CCR permitting, design and construction experience for at least 10 years and a track record of high value client relationship building and ability to win work in a regional area within the states of VA, NC, SC, TN, GA, and/or FL.

• This position is best suited for an individual that is excited to develop experience across a range of managerial and technical skills. Experience with supervision and mentoring of junior engineers and in construction management.

Skills and Abilities:

• Experience working with project management methodology including budget development, project planning, control and assurance methodologies, project management software and finance and accounting concepts and practices.

• Demonstrates good communications skills, both verbal and written.

• Possesses in-depth knowledge of project goals, drivers, strategies, risks and opportunities.

• Work requires verbal skills, ability to interact with varying levels of staff, as well as vendors.

• Good interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members and clients.

• Ability to deal with many people and process a large volume of requests as necessary.

• Good personal computer skills including advanced knowledge in the use of MS Word and Excel.

• Demonstrates organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.

Background Check and Drug Testing Information:

Additional Compensation:

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
