The purpose of the Referred Sites Intake Coordinator is to evaluate potentially contaminated sites referred to the Superfund Site Assessment (SA) program. In this role, the incumbent evaluates and prioritizes sites based on contaminant of concern concentrations, receptor risk(s), and additional criteria like environmental justice. This position uses data to triage referred sites and advise if clean-up actions, follow-up from State regulatory programs, or closure is appropriate based on established guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences (i.e. Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology Water Resources, Soil Science etc.) or other closely related environmental field and two years of professional-level environmental or public health protection experiences.

OR

Three years professional-level environmental or public health protection experiences.

AND the ability to:

Develop and implement work plans.

Independently complete assignments in a timely manner.

Understanding of the environmental regulatory process and procedures.

Effectively coordinate and serve as a team member and understand the environmental, social, and economic impacts of procurement.

Engage and communicate with diverse stakeholders and team members.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience evaluating potentially contaminated sites or conducting environmental investigations and cleanup activities.

Proficiency with GIS and data management.

Ability to communicate risks to human health and the environment effectively with a wide range of audiences including the public, responsible parties, and governmental organizations both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of the overall state and federal environmental regulatory framework related to environmental investigations and cleanup of contaminated properties.

Knowledge of soil, air, and water quality standards and environmental best management practices.

Experience working in teams and facilitating technical decision-making.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel, but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
