Bowery Residents Committee Independent Employment Specialist - 317 Bowery in Manhattan, New York

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage a caseload of clients who have significant barriers to employment and are resistant to work. Clients may or may not be engaged in the BRC Horizons program or other community-based employment programs. Engage clients in motivational interviewing, provide positive reinforcement, and help clients develop insight into barriers to employment and living independently in the community. Engage BRC’s Horizons program or other community-based employment services. Serve as a liaison to Horizons program staff with a focus on engaging the most difficult clients and providing enhanced continuity of care. Related dutes as assigned.

HOURS:

Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Tuesday-Saturday; 9:00am - 5:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience with vocational training and/or the homeless population. Excellent communication and writing skills and computer proficiency required.. CPR training certification or willingness to take traininclass in CPR. Basic computer literacy required.

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

    This 110-bed shelter is designed for men who are in need of job training and employment. Located in the former Palace Hotel on the Bowery, the program-oriented shelter provides temporary housing for a period of six to nine months. During this time, clients are guided through a structured continuum of treatment and training designed to give them the skills they need to address any substance abuse and/or health issues and to find and maintain permanent employment and housing. The Palace Employment Residence is funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
