Vanguard Senior Manager, Data Engineering in Malvern, Pennsylvania
Manages the activities of a team of senior data engineers responsible for developing software code that formats, tags, processes, stores and serves data. Manages the Personal Investor CDAO Modernization efforts (DB2 mod, modernizing ingestion into cloud lakehouse, accelerating build out of target state data platform and leading data transformation). This role will lead a hybrid workforce across Vanguard crew and 3rd party partner offshore teams.
Core Responsibilities
Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
Manages and optimizes the automation of key ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) and quality assurance processes for large volumes of data.
Consults with senior leaders on the strategies and operating plans. Executes and adjusts plans for team of Data Engineers. Develops a clear understanding of Data Analytics and Management work across Vanguard businesses and how they connect.
Directs the planning, prioritization, and execution of data production projects and processes.
Manages the design and development of software and processes to support large scale, efficient data pipelines. Optimizes the availability of data to generate insights and address business needs.
Monitors and troubleshoots software and processes for data consistency and integrity. Integrates complex and large scale data from a variety of sources for business partners to generate insight and make decisions.
Develops and exercises cross-functional data delivery to support business needs. Manages data integrity and quality standards.
Builds and recruits a team of Data Engineering experts across Vanguard.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of ten years business or technical experience including people management and data expertise.
Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree or PhD preferred.
